You are correct. Apparently it's been far too long since I've played the game. I just read "hotkeys" and instantly thought PC.... Sorry....

No worries. Just means you have to go back, play the game, get hooked again, and blow a few hundred hours until even the most basic minutiae is ingrained into your memory. Happens to everyone.

It's totally worth it since Radaways are useless for the rest of the game. Even without taking a single Stimpacks I managed to finish each places/missions with a maximum of 3-400 Rads due to the drunk water for life recovering.
The best thing is you can wear a radiation suit for lowering the rad amount of the water you drink. Genius !

Red Lucy from The Thorn, cool place, you can fight Deathclaws in cage matches and **** , the quest to get to sleep to her is kinda long if you ask me though, I just always do it because I like hunting Dealthclaws for fun.
User avatar #125 to #124 - goodguygary ONLINE (01/31/2014) [-]
hell, you get the dinner bell doing that quest, so worth it
User avatar #128 to #125 - hamstergeddon (01/31/2014) [-]
I find Riot Shotgun is better IMO, being semi-auto and higher damage, and unless you focus on The Thorn's quest completelly, you can get it much earlier, Dinner Bell just pales in comparision.
User avatar #188 to #128 - schneidend (01/31/2014) [-]
Because of their accuracy, the Dinner Bell or a normal Hunting Shotgun upgraded with the choke are better for getting insanely high damage non-VATS Sneak Attack Criticals from a relatively safe distance.
User avatar #191 to #188 - hamstergeddon (01/31/2014) [-]
That's the thing, I play with mods, Weapon Mods Extended(or WMX for short) adds a choke to every shotgun in the game as a weapon mod(in fact, the mod adds 3 weapon mods to every weapon in the game, including different mods for GRA and non-GRA versions of weapons, for example, the GRA Anti-Meteriel Rifle keeps the muffled noise muzzle, the non-GRA gets a damage boost), so I am used to the Riot Shotgun being far better than the Dinner Bell.

Even though I normally preffer to play without the choke, since more spread=more enemies hit by And Stay Back! perk, with that and Shotgun Surgeon, I can easily take on a horde of Deathclaws using only a non-moded Caravan Shotgun, I can just use a silenced Sniper Rifle with hand-loaded ammo for sneak crits anyway.
User avatar #193 to #191 - schneidend (01/31/2014) [-]
I haven't run the numbers lately, but generally with the Better Criticals perk, a shotgun's Sneak Attack crit will always outdamage other ballistics, as long as it's done outside of VATS. Each pellet will get the bonus critical damage plus the sneak attack multiplier.

But, as for your mod, that sounds dumb as hell. If it adds a choke for the Riot, it should at least provide less of a bonus to accuracy than the Hunting's choke.
User avatar #197 to #193 - hamstergeddon (01/31/2014) [-]
Same bonus for all shotguns, so the next one in the line completelly outclasses the previous one, there is even one for the Sawed-Off Shotgun and the Big Boomer, making it a very reliable sidearm, the other two weapon mods for the Riot are increased item HP and ligher weight IIRC, so only buff it gets is the decreased spread.

And to be honest, I am not really into the entire "get close" thing, I tend to max out damage perks and pick off enemies at distance, so much that I had a lot of trouble with Fo3 at first, it isn't nearly as Sniper-friendly as NV, then Sneak so nothing can see me, and Explosives simply because I love using the Red Glare, even if it isn't the best weapon.
User avatar #129 to #128 - goodguygary ONLINE (01/31/2014) [-]
the only places i can remember ever finding a riot shotty, are vault 34 and gun runners (at least with the gun runners dlc in there) felt easier coming in and picking the quest for dinner bell up after i had sweeped the deathclaw area past sloan, since that was the hardest egg to get, then breezing through the quest (you also get some caps too if i remember correctly)
User avatar #130 to #129 - hamstergeddon (01/31/2014) [-]
There is a guard in Gomorrah that always spawn with the Riot Shotgun regardless of character level, you could get it at level 1, just sneak kill him(he is in a rather isolated area, so it isn't hard), grab it, and have fun.
User avatar #133 to #130 - goodguygary ONLINE (01/31/2014) [-]
huh. i never really went in the gomorrah besides to gamble, never knew the gaurds spawned with them
User avatar #137 to #133 - hamstergeddon (01/31/2014) [-]
It is actually only one specific guard, he guards the bank, I found out about him when I was trying to sneak into the bank unseen to grab my weapons for the "confrontation" part of the Gomorrah quest, since then, every time I replay NV, he is one of the first to die...

User avatar #120 to #55 - Bad Man (01/31/2014) [-]
It was fun, but far from perfect. There was almost nothing of worth to do after you beat the story, which shouldn't need Broken Steel installed to continue, by the way.

In my opinion, though, it was more fun than Oblivion or Skyrim, but it was severely lacking in what you could do, other than kill things.

#60 to #58 - tjflash ONLINE (01/31/2014) [-]
Fallout 3 was amazing in my opinion. The story line was detailed and fun to follow, there were SOOOO many places to go and discover, and the characters were original and kept things fresh. I was never bored, because there was always a challenge I needed to face. I logged so many hours its ridiculous. Spent hours getting things like the MIRV and Lincolns repeater.
User avatar #62 to #60 - seras ONLINE (01/31/2014) [-]
Weird, I felt the exact opposite: For me, the game got dull very fast, because the setting and story were boring and uninspiring to me, and the characters were totally forgetable, I found.
User avatar #98 to #62 - hamstergeddon (01/31/2014) [-]
I can see why someone wouldn't enjoy Fo3 too much, the story felt too gritty and dark to me, just not... Fallouty, NV in the other hand was MUCH more like classic Fallout games, which were serious while keeping major amounts of humor, Fo3 was still great to me, I just enjoyed FoNV much more in every aspect.
User avatar #102 to #98 - fizzor (01/31/2014) [-]
NV is better than FO3 in just about every aspect. Gameplay is better, much more memorable characters, great DLC and even though the story is still better in FO3, I think NV's story quickly evolves from the "got shot in the face while delivering a package" **** to a great story with the MC being in the center of the storm that is the conflict between the NCR, the Legion and House's New Vegas.

3/5 DLC packs for FO3 are steaming piles of **** . Namely, The Pitt, Operation Anchorage and Mothership Zeta.
#96 to #86 - tjflash ONLINE (01/31/2014) [-]
Those were great, point lookout ks the only one i didn't care for. the rest were pretty awesome and gave you cool weapons/armor.
User avatar #101 to #96 - hamstergeddon (01/31/2014) [-]
Eh, I absolutelly hated the atmosphere of The Pitt, Anchorage is always "can we get done with this so I can get my OP Winterized T-51b Power Armor and my even more OP Chinese Stealth Armor?", and Mothership Zeta was too railroading, too "Go there, do that.", when compared to NV's sci-fi DLC Old World Blues, which adds an entire fully explorable map that includes the most poweful boss in the game.

Point Lookout actually gives you a wide map to explore, and I can really apreciate that,.
#99 to #96 - fizzor (01/31/2014) [-]
Operation Anchorage is only good for giving you the stealth suit and the electric chinese sword, otherwise it's completely forgettable and a waste of time.

The Pitt only good thing was the Mauler, otherwise it was another completely forgettable borefest of an DLC.

Mothership Zeta was the biggest *********** of all, absolutely ******* boring, I seriously couldn't wait until I got off that goddamn alien ship and would never have to look back, I wouldn't replay it at all if it weren't for the extra ammunition for the Alien Blaster you can get.

Basically Consensus

FO3 for story
FO:NV for gameplay

FO 1 & 2 kinda hard to compare since third person turn based vs rts/fps
User avatar #82 to #67 - independantnight (01/31/2014) [-]
And that about sums it up. Older Fallouts for mixture of great gameplay and nostalgia storyline. (If you're into that kind of gameplay anyhow.)

Really. You can get the best of both 3 and NV in whichever one you want because... Bethesda is awesome and facilitate's modding.

I disliked 3 because of amazing amounts of invisible walls...

User avatar #106 to #92 - myjeren (01/31/2014) [-]
There are twenty big side quests at most. There are a lot more in New Vegas and even more in TES.
User avatar #112 to #106 - trivdiego (01/31/2014) [-]
right but TES or at least syrim was so bland and generic in its side quests. NV managed to make each location unique, and I find that the locations in skyrim were definitely quantity over quality
User avatar #203 to #112 - myjeren (01/31/2014) [-]
Fallout 3's few side quests were all amazing, but New Vegas had far more. Also, TES has a **** load of filler quests, but it's still loaded to the brim with side stories.

Fallout is more about exploring. Going to decrepit plots of land others were unable to survive. It was about taking everything nice in the wasteland and hoarding it, and killing those who try to take it back.
