Hope everyone enjoyed this, I feel like making more of these now. Maybe backstory/timelines behind factions, or certain characters

Fallout Timeline Summary Part 1
The vast world of the Fallout Universe has developed a pretty huge
backstory over the years of games, so instead of a fact compilation,
here' s a simplified timeline of the most important events in Fallout,
both before and after the Great War, for seasoned players and people
who know nothing about Fallout, but might enjoy this. Enjoy!
1603
Toshiro Kago gets abducted by mothership Zeta. This is the first event in the Fallout
timeline that differs from reality
1697
Andre also gets abducted, from his home in Salem Village
1945
September gnd - WWII comes to an end. Somewhere between now and 1961 is when
divergence occurs (where the Fallout timeline splits of from reality' s to rapidly change)
1961
May 5 - Captain Carl Bell of the U. S. S. A. (United States Space Agency, the Fallout version
of NASA) becomes the first human in space, but is disputed by the Soviet Union and
China. Bell died when his capsule crashed on return to Earth
1969
By now the US has divided into 13 commonwealths,
each encompassing several states. The national flag
changes to reflect this: the 13 stars in a ring
represent the 13 commonwealth states, while the
central star represents the federal government and
the nation as a whole
2037
The Mister Handy series of robots is brought in by General Atomics as a general
construction and maintenance unit. A bug that causes interference with using multiple
arms is fixed two years later, and the series works without major fault since
2042
Robert House founds Robco Industries
2044
Nuka Cola is invented Brotherton
2051
Seeking to protect business interests and their oil supply,
America starts putting pressure on Mexico, claiming political instability and pollution is a
threat to the US. Economic sanctions destabilize Mexico, and the US military enters the
country to protect and keep oil refineries running and keep the oil flowing
2052
March 5 -The "New Plague" rises, k tens of . US closes it' s borders and
declares national quarantine.
April -The "Resource Wars" start. Smaller nations go bankrupt, and Europe responds to
the Middle Eat' s ing oil prices with military action.
July 26 - After failing to keep the peace or resolve conflict for months, the United Nations
is disbanded
2054
After a terrorist nuclear bomb destroys Tel Aviv the year before, a 'limited nuclear
exchange' arises in the Middle East. In light of the plague and Eastern
war, the US officially puts Project Safehouse in motion - the Vault construction begins
2055
West Tek Research Facility starts work on a new virus to kill the New Plague. Said virus
would eventually be altered and mutated to become FEV
2059
The Anchorage Front Line is established as US puts more pressure on Canada with
the Line as they protect their oil interests, even pressuring Canada to let American troops
guard the Alaskan Pipeline
2060
Traffic stops moving worldwide; fuel is too scarce to waste on cars. Electric and fusion
powered cars enter development. US economy teetering on bankruptcy.
The Eastern war ends as the oil fields run dry; both sides are almost
reduced to ruin, and the European Commonwealth breaks down
2066
As China gets more desperate for fuel, bordering on collapse, they become aggresive
in trade talks with the US whch break down in the summer. In winter of the same year,
Chinese troops invade Alaska
2067
2 years after research begun, the first suit of
power armour is deployed to Alaska.
Despite not being as mobile as future versions,
the armour is vastly effective, single units
cutting through areas of Chinese infantry
and tanks with no harm to the wearer
2070
The first fusion driven cars are devolped. They' re expensive but sell out within days
2072
An attempt to sabotage the Alaskan pipeline is all the excuse America needs to fully
annex Canada
2075
American power armour, infantry and mechanized troops deployed to China despite US
claims of only wanting to retake Alaska from the Reds, but get bogged down
2076
Tests and devlopment continue feverishly on the FEV, meanwhile the new Power
Armour is completed. Many are deployed to China and cut through swathes of Chinese
forces. It is the pinnacle of power armour technology before the war
The annexation of Canada is complete; the country' s resources are plundered, and
protesters and rioters shot on sight
2077
Robert House puts himself into stasis
Gas is now . 99 regular, . 99 premium, per gallon
January -The Alaskan Frontline is reclaimed. Less than two weeks later, power armour is
being used domestically for crowd control as food and energy riots and paranoia engulf
American cities.
February - FEV research is leaked, and further fuels tensions. The world fears America is
trying to do anything from create super soldiers to Hitler' s master race.
March - Prepared for nuclear or biological attack, the Enclave retreats to the Poseidon
Oil Rig
October -Just weeks before the War, troops at Mariposa Military Base discover the
scientists having been using military prisoners as test subjects for tests. Eventually the
scientists are all executed, and after his commander' s suicide, Captain Roger Maxion
takes control and declares full desertion from the army via radio, but gets no reply
October 23rd, 2077 - The Great War
Who struck first is unknown, but, seeing warheads coming, countries worldwide launch
planes and missiles. Sirens sound but few people heed the warning after constant drills.
Vaults are sealed. Two hours of nuclear bombardment ensues. The effects are far worse
than imagined; The planet' s faults shift violently, thrusting mountain ranges up through
the land, and whole lands are submerged.
October 27th - Having survived the firestorm inside the base, the soldiers seal the facility
and head out for the government bunker in Lost Hills.
October 30th - black rain falls, full of radioactive soot from the blasts. Plants and animal
species go extinct in a matter of days
November - Captain Maxion and his men arrive at Lost Hills despite many casualties.
The surviving soldiers go on to create the Brotherhood of Steel
There' s still a lot more to go, even summarised; this is only 1/ 3 of the
way down the timeline. I' ll continue this in another post, or maybe two if
there' s enough content. Hope you all enjoyed (this is my first real in
years, be gentle) and if anyone has any questions or requests for more
like this just ask in the comments :D

This actually got a feel out of me. Like, although a fantasy setting, the fragile "peace" we live in today is so easily shifted into a ****** reality like the one from Fallout.

Sure, you all want to live in that universe now, but when you're puking blood from radiation you'll not feel the same.

Easily shifted? Complete and utter loss of natural resources and the advent of a new virus that sweeps the nation isn't "easily" anything...
User avatar #65 to #17 - nigeltheoutlaw (12/01/2014) [-]
It is though. The world is long past peak oil, and with our global population as well as the rate of resource usage continuing to grow quickly, there are not enough resources to go around. More realistically, however, we will run into problems obtaining clean water before we get fallout (lel) from the increasingly expensive and difficult to obtain oil that is also lower quality and harder and more expensive to refine. And that's just oil and water. What about the rare earth minerals that power all of our electronics, many of which are mostly supplied by China? What about all of the other metals that are incredibly central to our way of life? Both are becoming increasingly scarce or at the very least production is unable to keep up with demand.

As for viruses, the Spanish Flu killed millions without much effort at all, and that was a natural virus when global travel was still fairly restrictive. Now, however, you can visit multiple countries in a day and be around to the other side of the planet in half a day before you even exhibit symptoms from whatever virus you caught. It'd be extremely easy for a virulent disease to spread globally and cause panic, especially if said virus was genetically engineered and accidentally/purposefully released into the public.

tl ; dr: the balance of our world is far more delicate than most people would like to think and could easily collapse

How do you know there wasn't a man in Japan named Toshiro Kago who was abducted in 1603?

Is there something you're not telling us, OP?

Fallout 3 is 75% off on steam. I went to buy it and my bank account was literally 5 cents short of buying it. Thank goodness L4D2 trading cards sell so quickly.

I know all about this though

I'm a heavy wiki viewer...
User avatar #45 - commontroll (12/01/2014) [-]
I'd love to see a Fallout Game set in some massive city (maybe New York or Houston? Houston would be cool, it never gets attention in media), but the majority of the downtown area is flooded and taken over by the sea, as well as other parts of it as well, while the landscape is full of irradiated plant life, almost a tropical feel to it. It'd be super cool to have bridges and **** going from skyscraper to sky scraper forming towns and **** as the ghost of a city looms out from the depths.

It'd be a super awesome change from the typical brown wasteland.
#50 to #45 - comradewinter (12/01/2014) [-]
Fallout 3 isn't a brown wasteland.
User avatar #51 to #50 - commontroll (12/01/2014) [-]
There's some city scape in the downtown region, but by far the majority of the game is desert wasteland of varying shades of brown with scrap metal huts sprinkled throughout.

I enjoyed it, but it's getting kind of old with the whole desert thing being the main setting of every game.
#52 to #51 - comradewinter (12/01/2014) [-]
The cityscape actually covers all the way from Rivet City to Temple of the Union. The colored areas suggest DC Central. While most of the map isn't fully urban, it was made this way for variation. But yeah, I guess they could've made the city bigger, although it would take a bit of resources to handle, seeing as even the relatively small DC is made into different cells to avoid perfomance drops.
#36 - mrwidefield (12/01/2014) [-]
I absolutely love your timeline, but I seek to remember a medieval guy who left a message in Mothership Zeta. Would that not be the oldest differing element? Forgive me if I'm wrong.
User avatar #67 to #36 - phantomseeker [OP](12/01/2014) [-]
I haven't played the Mothership Zeta DLC yet (Just got Fallout 3 GOTY edition) so I don't know for sure, but it wasn't mentioned in the wiki timeline. At a glance, could it be Andre Endicott?
#69 to #67 - mrwidefield (12/02/2014) [-]
You are correct, and I apologise. I reviewed the messages on the wiki and came to the same conclusion. And definitely play Zeta, dude, it's amazing. My favorite DLC is Point Lookout ( what I wanted to say to one of the characters was an actual ingame option, which to me seems like great writing, also the ambience is amazing). Let me know what you think of the game!
