I suppose that's the connection.

It's apparently what gets you the greengreens these days. Just keep rolling and if you get a ****** roll, you'll get like -2, and if you get a great roll you'll get +infinity

I'll stick to regular comments considering I keep forgetting if it's rollimage or rollpicture, and I don't care enough to check ever.

I don't remember that scene.
User avatar #155 to #2 - eezo (10/06/2015) [-]
It IS in Brotherhood, it just takes place at a different time/place

It's when Ed and Al go to visit Izumi, and Ed and Izumi are talking about The Door and ****

Al's outside sweeping when a note gets tossed at him, telling him to go to the Devil's Bar thing
User avatar #80 to #2 - advice (10/06/2015) [-]
watch the original series. no, honestly, it's not THAT bad
User avatar #115 to #80 - KazumaKyu (10/06/2015) [-]
The original FMA is great actually, it just pales in comparison to Brotherhood.
#133 to #115 - lmrml (10/06/2015) [-]

User avatar #3 to #2 - meringueluka [OP]ONLINE (10/05/2015) [-]
it was in the original animation, not brotherhood.
#4 to #3 - sinery (10/05/2015) [-]
I should watch the original.
User avatar #5 to #4 - historybuff (10/05/2015) [-]
The original is nowhere near as good as brotherhood, however, to anyone that hasn't seen either, I would recommend the original first, seeing as Brotherhood moves faster and introduces characters really quickly. It's nice to have a handle on who is who before you go into Brotherhood
User avatar #26 to #5 - burningchimera (10/05/2015) [-]
A little too fast for my taste, i thought that brotherhood had horrible pacing, and made many scenes look really rushed, especially the infamous scene with nina and alexnder. There was very little time to develop the characters and connect with them, which made the original feel very natural. But other scenes like hughes's death felt more powerful because it wasnt a horrible child actor doing it, and it sounded better because of it. But i also feel that the original did a fantastic job at questioning philosophy and morals, it questions right and wrong and doesn't make everything seem so black and white. For most of the story being made up on the spot, the original is actually pretty good. For 2003, the animation looks amazing with it's unique use of lighting, which brotherhood sseemed to lack. I dunno, the 2003 version just seemed more natural with it's progression than brotherhood
User avatar #96 to #26 - killerliquid (10/06/2015) [-]
Basically, the best way to experience FMA is either read it or watch the first 10 eps of the original then watch Brotherhood all the way through
User avatar #93 to #26 - killerliquid (10/06/2015) [-]
The start was the only rushed part. As far as i know the anime went the same pace as the manga with a less history on Ishvalans
User avatar #12 to #5 - gildemoono (10/05/2015) [-]
piggybacking on your comment. Definitely watch the original first. Although the story is worse, it does a much better job of setting up the characters and their relationships.
User avatar #33 to #5 - pokemonstheshiz (10/05/2015) [-]
The original is good in different aspects, and is still worth watching. It does a much better job with character development of most of the characters imo, and the origin of homunculi is much more poetic
User avatar #27 to #5 - sledmondson ONLINE (10/05/2015) [-]
But brotherhood IS the original . . . it may be the second anime but it's the original story. The way the characters are introduced in brotherhood is the way they were intended to be introduced. The only reason the first anime was so drawn out was because they had to stuff it with filler while waiting for the manga. Then they eventually gave up and ****** the story off into oblivion.
User avatar #32 to #27 - historybuff (10/05/2015) [-]
semantics
#20 to #5 - hongkonglongdong (10/05/2015) [-]
Really? I always much preferred the original. Why do you prefer Brotherhood?
User avatar #21 to #20 - historybuff (10/05/2015) [-]
Its truer to the manga, tells the story better, has the homunculi with their correct names, and it has Olivier Armstrong
#22 to #21 - hongkonglongdong (10/05/2015) [-]
All right, why d'you prefer the story of the manga to the 2003 anime?

How does it tell the story better, in your opinion? That was actually one of my problems with Brotherhood- it seemed to rush way too fast through the story for me.

I get the Olivier one.
User avatar #23 to #22 - historybuff (10/05/2015) [-]
Thats my only problem with Brotherhood, and why I recommend people watch the 2003 original first so they know the characters.

The story is more complete, there isn't the ******** with the homunculi that has Ed's arm and ****
#16 to #5 - omfgninjaneer (10/05/2015) [-]
I remember once watching the series online where the first episode of the original were mixed with the later episodes of Brotherhood to make a coherent story.
User avatar #34 to #5 - kentravyon (10/05/2015) [-]
Saying its nowhere near as good as brotherhood is an injustice.
It concludes nowhere nearly as well as brotherhood. But the beginning is much better. Because the original exists, brotherhood just glazed over some key events that defined the early parts of the series Nina, Hughes, and to a lesser point Basque grand

So what the original for the best introduction followed by a solid finish,
Then proceed onto brotherhood for a slight twist on the intro, followed by progression that truly takes the story to new highs.
User avatar #6 to #5 - tonyredgrave (10/05/2015) [-]
I'd like to think that brotherhood is their second chance.
User avatar #8 to #6 - crazyllamax (10/05/2015) [-]
Brotherhood is a very close adaptation of the manga, the original was decently doing a nice job of following the manga, but it eventually caught up with it and instead of doing filler they just decided to finish it out with their own story.

Then the manga was finished and we got the gloriousness that is Brotherhood.
User avatar #66 to #8 - tonyredgrave (10/05/2015) [-]
i know, I was just saying that its their second chance to get it right.
User avatar #7 to #6 - kingofish (10/05/2015) [-]

User avatar #82 to #7 - confusedasian (10/06/2015) [-]
That ending pissed me off.
#54 to #4 - naroemcgarson (10/05/2015) [-]
Absolutely. In my opinion Brotherhood is by far better (or at least more satisfying) but the original was still very good, even though they did improvise past a certain point they did not botch it, in fact I would say that the 2nd half and ending were just as good as brotherhood. They just took the series in a different direction which resulted in more of a drama life goes on kind of ending (that left an opening to continue if they wanted to) as opposed to the "and they all lived happy ever after THE END" ending you get from brotherhood.
User avatar #9 to #4 - sanitarysan (10/05/2015) [-]
i think the original was a lot darker, they were about as good though
User avatar #11 to #9 - stifflimb (10/05/2015) [-]

2. Because you're a psychopath with a long history of violence fetish

And I don't know yet. Maybe I'll hang with a couple people, watch horror stuff. Or just do it when I'm by myself heh.

#68 to #63 - enslavedyouth (10/05/2015) [-]
1. That doesn't exactly make it better!

2. The amount of times I've accidentally cut myself at work and had to lick the blood kinda made me develope a taste for blood.

Sounds like a plan. Another back up plan that always works is go to a club, stop thinking and just go bonkers.
#75 to #68 - graphomaniac (10/05/2015) [-]
1. Heh, I think its scissors actually. Haven't seen this all the way through yet.

2. Well that's one way to get a fetish I suppose. Sometimes I think I'm in the minority when I don't have any weird fetishes... especially when I'm on Funnyjunk hahaha.

And eh... I'm not a huge club fan. Crowds aren't my thing. Introverts for the win! However, walking around at night listening to one of my metal albums that sound like a horror movie while thinking of story ideas, now that sounds like a good back up plan. Yeah, I know. I'm lame
#78 to #75 - enslavedyouth (10/06/2015) [-]
1. Damn. Sounds and look brutal as all hell.

2. Yeah... I tend to get pretty reckless when in a working mood. Especially in the storage room or when I'm hastily sorting **** so I can go for a quick smoke without anyone noticing.

3. Hah, I do the same sometimes. When I played paperboy and had to deliver in a sort of empty area I used to growl along to Valhall Awaits Me. One of the few times I didn't give a flying **** what people think, simply because I knew exactly I wouldn't be going there ever again.
#89 to #78 - graphomaniac (10/06/2015) [-]
1. You bet your sweet ass it is. I wish more animes were this graphic. But, with cultural differences I can see why they are not. At best there's just blood.

2. Ah, come on man. You know smoking is bad for you son... but I ain't gonna judge. We all got our quirks.

3. Oh **** my ***** , I ******* love Amon Amarth! Tattered Banners and Bloody Flags is one of my favorites from them, but they have so many good ones.
#90 to #49 - enslavedyouth (10/06/2015) [-]
1. Hah, looks like I've got something to watch soon. Problem is, the characters seem to be pretty cute.. I have a soft spot for cuteness and seeing cute things getting hurt kinda hurts, knowwhatimsayin

2. Ehh, kinda picked it up at some point and it's incredibly hard to quit. Especially with adult life where basically everything is stress. I'd turn into a ******* maniac if I were to try quitting now.

3. Ohh, yes! Tattered Banners and bloody Flags is ******* amazing! So is Victorious March! Metal Wrath! And every song they've covered was better than the original.. damn, do they have a single bad song? I think you might like Debauchery.
#98 to #90 - graphomaniac (10/06/2015) [-]
0. Are we friends yet? I think we are but I can't check yet. You seem like a chill dude and I liked all the things you brought to this conversation.

1. It's only four OVA's so you can suffer through that I just knew going into it that most of them were going to die... horribly... or I didn't get attached, much. But, yeah I do know what you're saying. It's always the hot ones that die.

2.Definitely understandable. Not telling you to quit now, just keep it at the back of your mind. Your body will thank you... after it stops hating you haha

3. Which album is your favorite? I found them a little later on so the first one I heard was Twilight of the Thunder God and I grew in love with it haha. Debauchery pretty good. I was apprehensive about the singer, I'm a bit picky when it comes to metal since I listen to it so many bands and if I don't like the singer I just can't get into the band.. no matter how hard they shred, but he sounds like Johan mixed with Angela Gossow, the prerequisite singer for Arch Enemy.
#99 to #98 - enslavedyouth (10/06/2015) [-]
0. **** man, I don't even know. I sorta do consider you a friend already, will check and if not Ima shoot you a request.

1. Wo wo wo, I said cute. Not hot. Big difference there. I differentiate on purpose so my mind doesn't get it mixed up. Cute would be dogs, kids, cats, squirrels. Strippers and big bangin booties would be hot.

2. Hah, yeah. My body would hate me in the short term if I were to quit now and that's the worst part. Hey, at least I'm drinking less!

3. Oh wow, tough call. I'd have to say either Deceiver of the Gods or Fate of Norns. The feels, man.
Whoah. Now that you mention it.. I'll have to check that out. A mix? Never really noticed.
What do you think about Cradle of Filth? Personally, I like them. Heavy guitars, voice I can get behind. Nymphetamine is pretty much my favorite song. Or german bands, like Varg or Eisregen. **** man, I could go on for days.
#110 to #99 - graphomaniac (10/06/2015) [-]
0. And the feeling is mutual, with all of the or none of the homo implied. Take your pick.

1. So, you're not a loli fan? HAHA, just kidding. True, but my statement still stands. At least with me since I generally watch the dark side of anime so the cute kids and the hot teacher dies.

2. Drinking less is good! I never found the notion enjoyable to begin with. Ugh, my first time was horrible, didn't even get that pleasant drunk everyone talks about.

3. I'll have to give those another listen then. Hell their whole discography. I haven't listen to Cradle of Filth in a long time, but I remember liking them. I do like how heavy they can get. I don't think I've heard of Varg or Eisregen so I'll check them out. Favorite songs by them? I don't have a particular region that I like. As long as I love your metal, you're good in my book. 0. How about we do a little bit homo?

1. Oh don't get me wrong, I am a huge loli fan. I might or might not have a minor Lolita complex, too. It's nothing sexual, though, I'm just getting extremely protective when it comes to kids. Plus, four of them are my friends daughters so all's good. Hell, I can even be like "Hey Stephanie, Lea wants to accompany me getting some groceries, you cool with that?" and Steph's just like "Yeah man just be careful." Plus, I always seem to attract younger folk, especially girls are always very fond of me whenever there's a meetup and someone has a daughter. Latest example, we were at a BBQ at one of dad's friends, some guy brought his little girl along. Been taking out the trash and got distracted by some spiders (I love spiders) and the little one followed me, asking what I'm doing. So I explained the different kinds of spiders to her and that there's no need to be scared. Unsurprisingly, she did get scared and I cheered her up with a tickle fight.

Look at me rambling, I could talk for days when it comes to music and kids. One of those quirks you were talking about, heh.

2. No? You just gotta know your limits, man. It's about three cans of beer for me or a bottle of wine. Always getting that fuzzy feeling and feel great~ But if you don't like drinking, simply don't do it. I know it made me more social, so that's something!

3. Oi, never heard of any of them. Slice the Cake sounds promising, Becoming the Archetype are pretty sweet as well. Avatar isn't too bad. The rest I'm not too sure yet.. though I'm listenng to Ring of Saturn right now and it's certainly something new. Not bad, though.

Eisregen: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZOiKhurJvY (of the newer albums, they change style a lot and still manage to stay true to themselves)
Varg: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkF0vDrro_A (Song about the blood eagle treatment. 'nuff said.)
Neurotech: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsyOenmAOLg (a hidden gem, if you ask me. They have gotten a bit more recognition, but not nearly as much as they deserve.)
Scorngrain: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dqv02Vc4guA (one of my personal favorites. Three albums, one being digital only. Different vocalist for each album, too.)
Insomnium: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR6vqaa4d1s (a bit like Amon Amarth. A bit.)
And Stoneman. One of my favorite songs: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYlu2Z90yWs (video's a bit silly, but I recommend watching to the end. Guess you can guess from the title what it is about. Funny, I was just talking about kids and was looking for an entirely different song ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLYadsDWEzg ) just to see they put this on youtube.)

0. Sojourn homo it is.

1. That sounds devilishly charming.. and adorable. I smiled, kudos. And now I know your weakness mwahahaha . Being discursive is no where near a bad thing, especially when you're talking to me. "Spiderwebbing" as I call it when you're talking about one thing and in the same conversation you delve into quantum physics or some other crazy **** but at end you can still find all the different strands that leads you to this outcome is one of my favorite things to do, getting off topic is the best way to find out about someone.

2. It was my first time, how was I supposed to know? But, I guess 16 double shot glasses was a bit much huh? Alright context. My friends never saw me drunk and wanted to. I'm normally the one who stays sober and laughs at their shenanigans. So they tell me to start drinking. I shrug why not? They were already plastered and didn't advise me to slow down, just to keep drinking. I thought I would stop when I start to feel something... well 16 double shots later, I knew I made a mistake. It was a novice mistake I know but still it hit me like getting pimp smacked by a two-by-four. I had to crawl to the porcelain throne and threw up twice along the way. My body has a great immune system... it just hates alcohol, which is a good thing I guess. (It tastes like dirt anyways.)

3. Yeah, I ask of most of my friends who delve into hard rock and metal to find me promising new metal to listen to. I definitely find the recondite stuff. Which jades me a little bit, because I turn into a metal hipster at times. But, if it's really good I still listen to the popular **** . Those would be great additions to my collection~ soon I shall over 200 haha. (That's all genre's not just metal heh). Though Neurotech, Eisregen, and Stoneman are indubitably my favorites. Neurotech just sounded ******* sweet! I'm listening to their Decipher Volumes album now.
Here's some more.
Aesthetic Perfection. (they sound a bit like Neurotech, so I'm okay with this. My favorites are A Quiet Anthem and The Ones. They are less upbeat but are so hauntingly beautiful.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2dYFmE8EMk
Shokran (Apparently oriental metal sounds ******* badass.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=frPjgQY6p8I
Breakdown of Sanity (Their name drew me to them and I never stopped.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBBlAA7Eav0
The Browning (My friend showed me this and I was totally okay with this.)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ot7AtfskBM
As Blood Runs Black. (This is just typical deathcore but it was one of my first after I steamed out from Disturbed and Static-X, but just listen to those drums, delicious.)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Quoo-cVeOKU
The Human Abstract. (Holy. **** . This album is in my top ten best albums to date. It fits so smooth! And the clean vocals, ah nothing short of orgasmic.)

0. Heh. Had to google that. Sounds A-okay to me.

1. Yeah.. I have a thing for little girls and now that we got that out of the way, I can say that without having to fear you taking that the wrong way, heh. Even texting with the older ones (now 10 and.. 12, I think? Either way, 11 and 12 soon. I knew them since they were 6 and 7! How fast time flies.. the youngest ones are 5 and 6 now. Or was it 6 and 7? Jesus, time really does fly.) Managed to cheer Lea up as well, she took in a sick chicken (very animal friendly family, they have loads of pets), poor thing got mauled by a stray cat. Gotta give the little one a tight hug once back in town, the poor thing.
Gotta agree on spiderwebbing, I do that a lot. Too bad some people disapprove of it and tell me to stay on topic. Like, dude, what? That's normal in a conversation!

2. Hah, I get what you mean. I've started with beer and wine when I was 15 (legal age over here in germany is 16 for low percentage stuff.. yeah, I was one of those teens), buddy who's a year older than me got some vodka when he turned 18. Let's just say, I'm no longer allowed into his house when I've been drinking. Understandable, though. You see, I'm one of those people who needs to be told when boundaries are being crossed, and they have pets, kids and stuff that breaks easily. I tend to break even sturdy little fences.. and doors.. when drunk. Funny enough, I can still enter when stoned off me knockers. Did I mention that buddy is pretty much my best friend? He got me into toking. Only doing it every couple months, though. Never have any of my own, either, but I ain't no freeloader so I contribute a couple bucks at the very least. Or some booze, depends on situation, heh.

3. Hah. Barely anyone I know knows about Neurotech or Scorngrain, which is a shame.

Aesthetic Perfection and The Human Abstract sound ******* badass, though I'm more one for heavy, absolutely mind blowing stuff. Like Children of Bodom. HATE ME!
But really, I listen to pretty much everything, metal or naw. That also includes some of Katy Perry her songs, mashups or simply songified stuff like Shia LaBeouf's motivational speech. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhRXn2NRiWI

Then we have those babies:

CoB: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKquDyJYQWg (relatively new song I think, it sure as hell made me more awake!)
Deserted Fear: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tTsHVvYauw (wanna know the funny part? Dad showed this video to me.)
Keep of Kalessin: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTIX4CbkAkc (still my favorite to this day.)
Soulmass: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ON2ajjC0RsA (Ever played Dark Souls? This band is dedicated to it!)
Legion of the Damned: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vD4c2wY7sM (This is the end, this is the end..)
Kreator: www.youtube.com/watch?v=betNz43w6uI (Seen them live. Thrice, as a matter of fact. Every single time it was absolutely amazing. Can only recommend going to their concert.)

And that's pretty much all I got for now. Gonna dig in my CD collection when I'm back home. Oh yeah, leaving in about two hours to see my old pals.^^

Why is it dubbed I wanted to watch it.
User avatar #91 to #86 - enslavedyouth (10/06/2015) [-]
Then watch it dubbed. Watch dubbed wheneever possible. Do NOT drift off too deep into weaboo land.
#94 to #91 - anon (10/06/2015) [-]
Why the **** would I watch it dubbed? It's utter **** , in any language.

That's like watching Lord of the Rings dubbed into Spanish if I'm in Spain, stupid. Watch it in the language it was meant to be in and have subtitles on.

Jesus Christ, someone's sensitive when it comes to japanese cartoons.

Completely gloss over that I said dubbed in anything.

You stupid ******* cunt.
User avatar #101 to #100 - enslavedyouth (10/06/2015) [-]
Yeah, I know what you said. And I disagree with you. It's fine to have your own opinions, just tone down on the hostility a bit. It's completely unnecessary.
#102 to #101 - anon (10/06/2015) [-]
Do not bring religion into it then, talking down on me with insults like "weaboo" whatever the **** that is.

Clearly you did not comprehend my meaning at all, otherwise you would not have said I was sensitive to "japanese cartoons". **** off, put your fedora back on.
User avatar #103 to #102 - enslavedyouth (10/06/2015) [-]
I think you need to chill. To anyone else it would have been obvious I wasn't being serious. Not even a little bit.

If you want to watch it subbed then fine go for it, noboy's stopping you.

And at what point did I bring religion into this?
#104 to #103 - anon (10/06/2015) [-]
I am perfectly, calm. Just don't like dealing with idiots. Telling me to calm down and to tone down my own hostility right after you insult someone.

"Jesus Christ" if you do not understand the religious part of that, I fear for you. I am done however. Have a nice day.
User avatar #105 to #104 - enslavedyouth (10/06/2015) [-]
Oh lawd, I wasn't insulting you. I was trying to be funny with this whole weaboo thing. Note how I said trying to be funny, clearly it wasn't funny to you.

Jesus Christ is what people say for the **** of it. It's like saying "By the lord", "Oh nobs" or whatever else. It's just a saying. If you don't understand that, I fear for you.

1100+ anime series watched Master Race, and I can confirm that FMA:B is pretty good, easily in amongst the top 100 series I've seen. Probably around the 60-70 rankings.

It's really hard to choose my favorites, so I've only got a list of my top 7 thus far. Keep in mind this is my "Personal Favorites" list, and not a "Best of all time in my opinion" list... though they would overlap some, like with Fate/Zero.

FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Bloopers (1080p) FMA, one of the best Shounen series ever. The strength of the series is the structure, with every individual element of the show being good, and then those elements being expertly put together.

Brotherhood has the kind of excellent pacing, that comes from having the time to work on your adaptation years after the story has come to an end, and having a clear vision to work with. Also makes for a good ending, which most series lack because of real-life reasons.
