I was reminded of something: ever seen that story of "back then I was full on energy and dreams and possibilities and now I'm forever stuck in a dead-end job with a family that makes me contemplate a life as a hermit in a cave"?
Well, what if looking back, you realize that you were (more or less) as pathetic in the past as you are in the present? I think the horror would make a good plot for a series.
