Just a little something to hold y'all over until I get some more comps ready
Pic related, my dank webm reserves are building back up. Also I've got another 2-parter comp coming, some of you might recognize the names of those files on my desktop.
I need burning eyes so that I stay awake. Thats literally the only reason.I know a dude who uses a tiling window manager with a completely white/pink theme. Its insane.
btw mpv can now adjust the playback speed/fps to your screen refresh rate much like svp only better and free. Looks so buttery smooth on anime. I think its possible on windows aswell.
Thats a valid opinion. I personally changed the theme instantly even in windows 7. I like flat stuff but only when its well designed. At least you have proper font rendering. Thats one of the things I miss on windows. That and the terminal
I'm still getting used to the terminal, but **** is so dope
Windows 7's theme was pretty great
but I hated Windows 8's theme so I replaced it with the ******* sexy Snowy8, pic related
Then when I updated to windows 10, I was greeted with the ******* disgraceful new flat UI again, and I went to put a new theme over it. Turns out 10 disabled how custom themes worked, therefore those were pepsi
That's all it took to push me over to Linux. I'm glad it did. Life is good on a *nix system.
Snowy 8! I used that on Win 8.1(that and bello)! Perferct mix of minimalism and the good parts of win 7.Windows10 really is mess. The theme is not only ugly but inconsistent aswell. Feels rushed and unprofessional (right-click menus look different everywhere).
I have used linux for quite a while so if you ever need help with anything feel free to write me.
eyy yeah snowy8 was the *********** , I wish there was a Linux theme that reproduced that soft, transparent-blur feel. Never had a sexier looking OS than with 8 + snowy8 + glass8 + startisback
I'm looking to go Arch down the line, but I feel like waiting a few months before I perform the backup-everything ritual. What's the best way to install Arch alongside Ubuntu and W10 for a temoporary triple-boot, then start moving files to Arch, and when all done, delete the Ubuntu partition and expand the size of the Arch partition to fill the remaining space?
Or is there a better way? The reason I want them both at the same time is so I can go back and forth to know what programs and configs I need to copy over.
>>#68 Oh yeah, that reminds me, I have severe screen-tearing issues on my second monitor when using gnome. Any fixes for that?
Also transparent themes are kinda weird on linux. In general its possible in arc btw sidebars are slightly transparent which is neat. The only thing you can do is turn windows completely transparent which isnt quite as nice.
First if you want to install arch you have to decide if you want the install experience or not. If not there is an awesome installer called Architect.
Everything Depends on your partitions man. If you have an uefi system you should have at least 2 partitions.(better if 3)
One /boot/uefi then / (which is root) and then home. The thing is the windows boatloader breaks very easily. Id have to read up on that if you want 100% success.
But honestly if you DO NOT touch the existing partition there should be no problem. You can completely remove the ubuntu partitions after installing arch then use gparted to remove the partititions and then sudo update-grub.
But yeah you can move all the stuff from your homefolder (especially configs) to arch. Thats what I do. Arch is actually (once set up) way easier to use then ubuntu because everything is in one big repository so you dont have to hunt for them.
I looked into Antegros, Manjaro, using the Architech installer, but pretty much the final conclusion that I've come to from reading is to just man the **** up and do the CLI-based install, so I think that's what I'm going to do.
This SDD is only 256GB though, so I can't go too crazy with the multi-partitions, pic related. The external drive is too slow and the modular-bay drive gets swapped out with a CD drive or a second battery from time to time.
>Arch is actually (once set up) way easier to use then ubuntu because everything is in one big repository so you dont have to hunt for them.
Exactly what I mean, installing on ubuntu is kind of a pain since I have to learn like 4 different methods of install (and uninstall), and I want to get to know my system a bit better. But most the reason I want arch is because of the AUR.
>>#72 this is my only computer lol. I'd probably just reddit all day on my phone in such a case.
>>#73 I've seen some transparency on /r/unixporn but yeah, it just ain't the same. I mean, OS X got it working pretty well, so it's possible, it just needs some programmers that are interested in making it work.
>>#74 toplel I've seen asciiwars before but never through a terminal. That's ******* brilliant.
I also highly recommend the "open with" plugin for firefox. You can put mpv and peerflix --mpv in there. Rightclick a torrent "open with peerflix". boom movie plays. Rightclick a twitch link "open with mpv" it plays etc. Also works for sites like kissanime.
Dude trust me you will never use another distro once you get used to the aur. Theres all kinds of **** on there. katawa shoujo, themes, icon packs and even scripts. Its so sick.
Unixporn is so good. The #rice irc channel is also very nice.
Honestly from the way youre talking you know what youre getting into so it should be fine. Its really not that hard and youll learn a lot. The really fun part comes after that when you try scripting/tiling and all that other neat stuff.
>>#80
hey that's what I got too
well I guess I have three
(Unity, GNOME 3, i3-gaps, but **** Unity tho. It saves screen space really well but that's about it)
but nice to know I'm not the only one who runs multiple DEs/WMs
