As someone who has performed multiple times in the past, and still performs, I totally know. It's impressive to pull out an actual GOOD solo when you don't even know how to play the song completely.
Impressively enough, the front guy actually really didn't know part of of the song and the other dude just made up a majority of his part from what I know about it. It's super awesome!
I always love this clip. The only thing I feel bad about is poor Andrew (the guy they introduce and who they were supposed to actually do a song with right then and there, lead singer of Jack's Mannequin) has no idea what's going on and is just like "Welp, okay"
I'm aware, I've done live shows multiple times. It's just that you can honestly tell that they weren't expecting it, especially Andrew and since he wasn't going to playing any instruments, he clearly feels out of place when he was supposed to be part of whatever song was meant to be played just then.
Yeah, I haven't kept up with them since the last time I saw them (like..4ish years ago?). Dark Blue has always been one of my favourite songs though and I'm so glad I got to "finish" my high school experience by doing a cover of it with my friends (it also gave me an excuse to finally learn it on piano).
My friend's band had a show at a local bar, and (at my suggestion) played the first couple seconds of Smells Like Teen Spirit after every single other song
And then at the end of the show, play up until the first lyrics and switch to another song
Holy **** this is why music is the most amazing thing in the world.
Letting yourself just ride the flow of the music, this is exactly how it should be.
The crowd is the band, the band is the crowd.
