Not really, every BF game have had it's fair share of faults.
1942 had a horrible netcode and hitbox, so did BF2

Then there's 2142 which had a whole ******** of glitches like this: youtu.be/he63TmUT8po
youtu.be/AdxcpaMWpbo
And i could go on..

Yes, because a finished game never has bugs.

That's only a few examples taken from some of the actually popular games released in 1998, and it's likely that less popular games more often than not would have more glitches than these games.
Furthermore it sort of makes sense that games nowadays are harder to release without glitches and bugs due to the way that games have become much larger and more complex because let's face it no amount of playtesting or general testing could've covered the entirety of games that are massive like say Skyrim, which was released with more than it's fair share of bugs..
Even then there are some big budget games like Call of Duty that are very much devoid of any bugs that are on the game's side with most of the complications surrounding that game revolving around hard to fix errors from the game's engine and server/connection problems.
Also, come on, falling through the map? That's such a common bug that it takes a special person to cry about it happening.
I will give you one thing though. Games like BF4 do seem to be being released with more problems over time as companies try to rake in cash with less effort and rely on post-launch patching to fix their problems.
TL;DR Bugs have been around forever you just need to take off your nostalgia glasses to see them.
