based on what? He has a cool face, but after training his entire life to fight jedi, he only kills one old one, and gets killed by a ******* apprentice. Also he completely fails every aspect of his mission, and has no personality. Worst sith lord ever.
User avatar #43 to #37 - captainfuckitall ONLINE (12/18/2013) [-]
You obviously haven't read the comics. Not only is he actually supremely talented and skilled at what he does, but he has a lot of history and backstory.

The reason he was cut down so easily is because 1, he got cocky and 2, he was caught off guard, and even then he didn't really die and they managed to get a false-clone out of him (basically him in a new body)
User avatar #55 to #43 - sanguinesolitude (12/18/2013) [-]
of course i haven't read the comics, and anything not in the movies is a tier down in terms of being canon.
User avatar #57 to #55 - captainfuckitall ONLINE (12/18/2013) [-]
You can't be serious right now...
User avatar #59 to #57 - sanguinesolitude (12/18/2013) [-]
dead serious. Movies are primary canon, anything in the secondary canon (such as books, games, comics, etc.) that conflicts with the movies can be ignored. Star wars movies are the direct source, comics and books are basically just officially sanctioned fanfiction.
User avatar #81 to #59 - everyziggy (12/18/2013) [-]
You're close on the canon thing, in the Star Wars universe anything that is produced by Lucas(and I guess disney now) is primary canon. This includes the cartoon movies and the Clone Wars cartoon produced by Lucas for Cartoon Network. A lot of what happens to Maul after he gets cut in half and gets a robot bottom half in is in cartoon so it is actually primary canon.
User avatar #86 to #81 - sanguinesolitude (12/18/2013) [-]
oh good point, they did add clone wars to primary. I haven't watched much of that, but what i did was enjoyable.
User avatar #66 to #59 - agrofenlas (12/18/2013) [-]
Kay, then by that logic, the Harry potter movies are just fan fiction. Lets not forget about the Lion the witch and the wardrobe movies, all of them, how about we go ahead and disregard the new testament to, and Christians can go back to the crusades and killing all non Catholics. That's not how it work. You done herped your derp there.
User avatar #70 to #66 - sanguinesolitude (12/18/2013) [-]
yes harry potter movies are secondary to the books, the books came first and are the primary source. Anything in the movies that contradicts the books is a mistake.

Lion the witch and the wardrobe movies are also secondary to the books.

new testament doesnt make sense as an example, its not a remake, it supplants the old. Kind of like a new edition of a textbook.

I herp derped nothing. Any real fan knows the difference between primary canon and secondary.
User avatar #71 to #70 - agrofenlas (12/18/2013) [-]
The books and comics of star wars are mostly what the audience doesn't see in the films. Tell me, did the films ever show Asokatana's encounter with Gen. Grievous, or the story line of the fall of the Sith race, oh, how about when Maul gets robot legs, or Ventrus? How about the time between Hans freeze and his rescue, inside the palace?
User avatar #74 to #71 - sanguinesolitude (12/18/2013) [-]
yep, the books and the rest of the EU are secondary canon. Meaning they are accepted as canon as long as they follow continuity and dont contradict the films. They obviously have a place there, but the fact remains that they are secondary to the screenplays.

Here is what the editor of lucas books and head of fan relations said in an "ask the jedi council" response,
"When it comes to absolute canon, the real story of Star Wars, you must turn to the films themselves—and only the films. Even novelizations are interpretations of the film, and while they are largely true to George Lucas' vision (he works quite closely with the novel authors), the method in which they are written does allow for some minor differences. The novelizations are written concurrently with the film's production, so variations in detail do creep in from time to time. Nonetheless, they should be regarded as very accurate depictions of the fictional Star Wars movies."
User avatar #75 to #74 - agrofenlas (12/18/2013) [-]
Everyone but you is accepting them as facts. Darth maul was my favorite Sith, and the **** he's been though, even if you say its a fiction depiction should be cannon because it doesn't matter weather it is or isn't it doesn't interfere with the story line.

On that note: Caught off guard and cut in half, got robot legs, caught off guard and had his brain re-arranged by a slug thrower, defeated by a teen age Luke, a middle aged Obi-one, and Ventres ( I think. ), and lastly killed by the Sith emperor...
User avatar #77 to #75 - sanguinesolitude (12/18/2013) [-]
I just said i didnt read it, slow your roll. I am not a huge star wars nerd, so why would i read all the expanded universe stuff. sure i've read a bit, but nothing prequel related.
Everything shown in the movie was fairly unimpressive.

And from what you are telling me, he is indeed kinda a pathetic character, but kinda humorous how everyone who is anyone kicks his ass on their way up.
User avatar #78 to #77 - agrofenlas (12/18/2013) [-]
He's just very very unlucky... I'm still rooting for him, because if he hadn't been taken down the first time, the series wouldn't have been the same.

"Equality is a lie. A myth to appease the masses. Simply look around and you will see the lie for what it is! There are those with power, those with the strength and will to lead. And there are those meant to follow – those incapable of anything but servitude and a meager, worthless existence."

Given that we don't yet know what happens at the end of the Second Great Galactic War in The Old Republic, that remains to be seen.

Also, Malgus is talking about the Sith Empire's needlessly racist policies, which hinders recruitment and replenishing of badly needed numbers.

It's just weird that they are technologically more advanced in the prequel trilogy.
But I love that Star Wars: Battlefront 1+2 tell the story inbetween a bit (Or make excuses for the continuity errors), like that they now made clones of other dna, not only jango's, which explains the different looking stormtroopers and generals in the original trilogy.

One of my cats is terrified of me if I'm fitting one of my paintball masks or trying out something new. He gets scared if I twitch my foot when he comes in my room.

I'v been doing this for 3 years now.
User avatar #80 to #65 - teevee (12/18/2013) [-]
Pets can smell you i guess, but they can't understand that the mask is fake. that's why they don't immediately don't attack or run away, because they smell you but see a monster.
User avatar #83 to #80 - toensix (12/18/2013) [-]
But they never look surprised when you wear a different type of clothing. And while humans look at each others faces(and because of that also at the faces of animals) to find out how they're feeling, most animals don't so I would assume a cat wouldn't be that startled by a mask.
User avatar #84 to #83 - teevee (12/18/2013) [-]
well, they don't look at your face to see emotions, they look at it to see a non-demonic looking face. plus, the mask had some sort of voice changer/recording to it.
User avatar #107 to #65 - Viacom (12/19/2013) [-]
The whole house would already smell like her owner. From a cat's perspective, there's really no logical way anyone's entire head would suddenly look not just completely different, but also unlike any other human or animal they've ever seen before in their life.

Housecats are very frequently frightened by unexpected behavior, sounds, and sights; they're creatures of habit. Even if you look and smell exactly like you always do, if you do something they've never seen you (or anyone else) do before, like climb in through the window instead of the door, it's easy to freak them out.

There are a multitude of "cat scared of mask" videos on YouTube.
User avatar #108 to #65 - hammarhead (12/19/2013) [-]
it's like how we find something creepy. something completely different isn't creepy, but something just slightly off is, like a teddy bear with human teeth (Vsause). Cats are visual, and like most felines, based a lot on faces. So when everything is familiar but the face... that's creepy as **** .
