Elijah Wood's acting has little to no depth, Daniel Radcliffe is also a poor actor.

The only reason we were able to sit through any of the Harry Potter films was because of the terrific acting on the parts of professors and teachers. The movies would be unbearable if it were not for the talented actors. The talented actors being pretty much everyone who wasn't a student at Hogwarts.

inb4 No he's not-Daniel even admitted that he's a bad actor.

I absolutely agree that Daniel Radcliff is a pretty OK actor, and the professors were absolutely incredible and made some of the movies. Emma watson was pretty convincing, but Rupert Grint played Rohn extremely well.

I dont know about the quality of acting, as i saw hp so long ago, and everything else in LOTR was just so great that noticing and judging everyones acting wasn't really my top priority. But i fail to see why people still thumbs this down, even though you clearly warned them that it was an unpopular opinion
#77 to #75 - deadwillieguy (10/24/2013) [-]
Um isn't that like the whole purpose of thumbs to show that people like his opinion (popular) or don't like it (unpopular).
User avatar #79 to #77 - daentraya (10/24/2013) [-]
He already knows it unpopular, and he may have truth to his claim. Sometimes i get the feeling that some hatred is ungrounded and just silly

Did you ever see his shows in the West end theater?
He was brilliant... I'm not talking some silly Disney Broadway show, he stared in a Peter Shaffer play.
I don't know how it runs anywhere else, but you don't give give away a leading role in theater because they're famous, or you'll loose the regulars who enjoy the theater on more than on occasion (which in London, is a lot). It wouldn't be worth it.

LOTR has weak character development on purpose.
Tolkien was a notorious perfectionist. He wouldn't have allowed any aspect of his stories to stray from his vision at all. Moreover, Smeagol shows that he could very easily have given all of them strong character development.
He created Lord of the Rings to replace the Celtic lore that was lost in the many invasions of Britain. He was always sad that they had lost their heritage, so he tried to replace it.
Many mythological figures don't have much character development; there are some, but rarely.
Therefore it is my belief that Lord of the Rings has poor character development on purpose to mirror that of Greek, Egyptian, Norse mythologies.

I thought that both Daniel radcliffe and Elijah Wood did a very good job at portraying the characters the way the way Tolkien and Rowling intended them to be. I can understand you tinking that Elijah Wood's acting has little depth, but I think that he was just correctly portraying a character who usually expresses little outward emotions.
#45 to #36 - grandogger (10/24/2013) [-]
hey I thought Elijah wood was good in return of the king
User avatar #34 to #26 - tkfourtwoone ONLINE (10/24/2013) [-]
^Perfectly true.

Rupert can just make silly faces while Emma Watson... well, she just looks nerdy & intense. Intensely nerdy.
But really, that doesn't require even medium amounts of acting skill.

Seeing McConnagal, Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman (YES PLEASE!), Ralph Fiennes, even the "new" Dumbledore...
Now THAT is acting.

I guess they were cute when they were 9-10-12 years old, but once they hit 16-18, you start to have some standards out of them.

User avatar #88 to #80 - pipedt (10/24/2013) [-]
There is no defining moment. LOTR was written by one of the greatest minds in English literature, professor at the prestigious University of Oxford. Harry Potter books (don't get me wrong I like them and the books are pretty good) were written by a mom living from the government... It's like comparing a Kobe Steak with a Hamburger ( a really really good hamburger though)
User avatar #102 to #88 - nospyonme (10/24/2013) [-]
I'm not talking about Harry Potter vs Lord of the Rings, I was talking about a comedian instigating a fight between two men on live TV is it live? I dont really know . That's nothing new, what is new is a person being publicly called out on TV and responding publicly as soon as it happens, not only that, but he is able to reach as wide of an audience as the TV show did. Even 5 years ago this couldn't have happened. I'm not saying it's never happened before, but it is a prime example of how people can interact with each other and how social media is changing the way we get information.

I ******* hate the Harry Potter movies, I had to sit through each of them because my family thinks they are great. Every time the end credits rolled I knew, somehow, that I was a lesser person for having sat through the film.
