There are a lot of good "royalty free" fonts. Not only are the fonts free you don't have to worry about paying a royalty if you use the font on a product that you plan to distribute. Something a lot of people never think about, but could end up getting you sued. A lot of free / open source software includes free fonts. For example ubuntu and other Linux Distros, and think Libreofice may provides some fonts

Look up google fonts, all fee to use. Specially take a look at Roboto and it's variants (Roboto - Thin is pretty sexy).

I've been looking for a good font to edit pictures with, like this one. I've just been using arial bold and looking for a better one.
