That's because there aren't any women on the internet, the people that are here are men and we have a " **** that" attitude towards women....

" msyogynistic"

Misogynist: A hatred or dislike of women.

It's unfair treatment but not misogyny, though the cause of the treatment could be misogynistic in nature.

Perspective
a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view.
In away, some people can't think of the world revolving NOT around them.
It's called Egoism.

Technically I am the center of the universe.
Because according to the big bang theory (not the show you muppets) spacetime itself is expanding and if you take a map of the universe at time t and time t+n (n isn't too big or too small) and then take a arbitrary object in both 3D maps (for example me) you would then see that the universe is expanding away from this object in all directions. Therefore I am the center of the universe.
User avatar #227 to #115 - personz (08/28/2014) [-]
no, obviously I am the center of the universe
because the universe is theoretically infinite (inb4 old theory/ discredited), and every point in an infinite plane or space is the center.
#202 to #115 - thedeadpidgeon (08/28/2014) [-]
With that logic, if you took a sheet of rubber and stretched it out evenly, any point could be considered the center, even if it was extremely close to the edge.
User avatar #215 to #202 - blacklightsun ONLINE (08/28/2014) [-]
It also is the lhe logic of a balloon, you take the balloon, put a lot of dots on it and the blow it, if you focus on one single dot, every other dot will expand away from it, so that dot is the center of the ballon, and you can do that to any given dot you place on it, so every dot is the center of the ballon.

This **** makes me rage so hard. I remember when my girlfriend and I went rummage saling with my older brother a few months ago and we found a HUGE collection of Star Wars **** , Marvel comics, Great Lakes Avengers even, this dude had it all. We all started skimming the comics and this ******* guy started laughing and pointing at my girlfriend for wanting to actually be a part of the comic fanbase.

We got to his register and he starts giving her the ******** "Oh do you even know who Thor is? Do you know the comics at all?" Like she'd be buying the ******* comics from you if she already had them and read them.
User avatar #208 to #156 - usarmyexplain (08/28/2014) [-]
I use to bring girlfriends to the comic book store as a test, if they passed I would send them in alone with cash to buy comics, they would always get massive discounts.

its pretty true though, never seen anyone call out guys as fake geeks
only girls
User avatar #106 to #73 - pokemonstheshiz (08/28/2014) [-]
If a guy calls himself a geek, it wouldn't be for attention.
User avatar #117 to #106 - wardylocks (08/28/2014) [-]
but why is it only 'geek culture' that people get called fake fans? do you see someone at a football match calling someone out on them being a fake football fan? and then testing them to see if theyre a 'real fan'? its literally ******** .
User avatar #189 to #117 - payseht (08/28/2014) [-]
from what I've seen (not experienced because I'm on the internet so wtf would I know about sports?), sport fans have a fanbase mind, like geeks. People shun you if you like sports in general instead of supporting a specific team, and when you do support a specific team and not know way too much about it, you're disliked.
User avatar #119 to #117 - pokemonstheshiz (08/28/2014) [-]
because you're not at a football game for attention. You're there to yell loudly, watch a game, and probably drink a lot. There's no point in being a fake sports fan.
User avatar #165 to #119 - dummerbaztard (08/28/2014) [-]
And what is the point of being a fake geek then?
User avatar #177 to #165 - pokemonstheshiz (08/28/2014) [-]
To garner attention they wouldn't normally get, by trying to stand out.
User avatar #207 to #177 - wardylocks (08/28/2014) [-]
yeah but how do you know this? why is one person a fake and one person a real nerd? do i need to take up a test every month to make sure im still a real geek?

funnyjunk.com/Comic+book+store/funny-pictures/5274583/234#234
Anon explained it better than I could have.

One person is fake if they pretend to be interested in the culture, without actually participating in the "geeky" activities. Like a girl who says she's a comic book nerd, despite the fact that the only thing related she did was see The Avengers. Similar to "gamer girls". It's become a thing as things that were once considered "geeky" have eclipsed their way into the mainstream, like video games and comics.
User avatar #268 to #262 - wardylocks (08/29/2014) [-]
but there is very few girls out there like that, you shouldnt assume all girls are like that.
to me, its just as bad as when geeks/nerds get picked on for being geeks/nerds as to going up to a girl and intimidating them saying 'hahah i bet you dont really like that, do you? omg your such a fake gamer.' when that girl probably has loved geek culture her whole life, and has been teased about it, and is now facing these douchebags telling her that shes a fake geek.
imagine if someone came up to you like that and started saying you were a 'fake geek' and asked you to answer stupid questions about a subject even though you aren't anything like that?
User avatar #269 to #268 - pokemonstheshiz (08/29/2014) [-]
I never said all girls are like that.
I also never said I'd do that
You're assuming a great deal from me just trying to explain to you that there are girls who are fake geeks
#234 to #73 - anon (08/28/2014) [-]
Men have little to gain from falsely claiming to be a geek/nerd
Women who falsely claim to be a geek/nerd get to be part of a subculture which is has been predominantly male for a long time. In this kind of group, the meetings between people with common intersts tend to be men meeting men. The possibility of speaking with a woman who is interested in comics/maths/science/scifi/whatever is a breath of fresh air, not only because of physical attraction, but because women think differently, and may have a dfferent outlook on the subject.
For decades it has been incredibly uncool to be a geek. Women mocked geek men. Now it has become fashionable to have an interest which was once considered unusual or obscure, and this has brought on a rash of people who think that being a geek can be faked by dressing a certain way, or claiming to be into something they just looked up on wikipedia.
Yes, there are geek girls, but there are also fakers who desire attention.

i paraphrased but its common and happens a lot

mostly whenever a comic movie or tv show becomes popular
they buy a few issues
then never return

this last batch came because of guardians of the galaxy
before that i remember it was the walking dead and avengers
my little pony (the male version of this)
spiderman

when they read the comics and find out that it is not at all like the movie they give up
my favorite comment was when a girl said rick grimes was cuter on the show
well no ****

Gee, does this kind of thing actually happen to people?(not this version, guys ranting to girls I mean) I thought people just say it as a joke. I've never once seen an example of it IRL (I live in NYC for location ref.)

You must have some kind of problem if you can actually care enough about your 'nerd-age' to go and chastise some girl on it. I don't think I've ever mustered up enough ***** in my life to give to do that kind of thing. Beyond the point being, that more likely than not, the one saying it is prob a neckbeard of some kind, and def. not in a position to judge people.

I'm not that savvy when it comes to comics and such, but I have never been looked down on for my lack of knowledge. The people there are always friendly and eager to get me to into the stuff that they personally like. And that's how being a geek really is, you enjoy your hobby and want to share it.
