Not expecting a whole lot of people to believe this, but that's fine.
When I was 13, I had a grandmother who was EXTREMELY rich. (Not like...uber trillionaire or anything, but still lived in a massive mansion and such.)
I was told I'd be receiving 2,500,000$ in inheritance.
Surprisingly, I wasn't the kind of kid that was hoping to use all the money on redundant **** , and I really wanted to save it up and try to invest with it.
My relatives basically said that I was too young to be handling that kind of money, and took it from me, leaving me with nothing.
Oh yeah, I'm also extremely poor right now (yes, computers can be cheap. granted, they're not super computers, but they work.), and essentially all of my other family members are bathing in money and aren't even giving me a helping hand.

If you don't have necessities or you can record them using it out of limitations on unnecessary luxury in comparison to your daily/yearly budget you can sue the **** out of them. User avatar #33 to #27 - thegrayfox (10/14/2013) [-]
That ******* sucks man.

But hey, that's how life is. Those who are closest to you, can do the biggest types of betrayal.

Would I guess right if I assumed you didn't live in the US? (just a hunch)
#35 to #33 - John Cena (10/14/2013) [-]
I do live in the U.S
User avatar #37 to #35 - thegrayfox (10/14/2013) [-]

Most people who live outside the US type dollar values as 500 $, because they associate the symbol $ with the word "dollar" so 500 dollars becomes 500 $.

US people type it correctly like this: $ 500

Anyway... That story really sounds vomit-inducing. Because 2.5 million dollars is something you can't possibly spend in a lifetime, so you'd pretty much be financially set and could pursue your actual dreams and goals, regardless of their financial benefits.

Sorry man, I'm poor too (south-eastern Europe) so I know how it feels.
User avatar #80 to #37 - capslockrage (10/14/2013) [-]
What? You could easily spend $2.5 million in a life time, it's not even that much money.
There are cars that cost more than that. Trust me, 2.5 million goes a lot faster than you think, unless you live off like 50k a year. Which is tough to do when you have 2.5 million sitting in the bank.
User avatar #100 to #80 - thegrayfox (10/14/2013) [-]
Uhhh, no?

Where I live, the average monthly salary is around 300 dollars. Let's say you spend 3 times the average salary a month.

2 500 000 / 1000 = 2 500 months
2 500 / 12 = 208 years.

Unless you're a vampire, the money will last. And you would live like a god.

Also, even if you lived in a wealthy country like the US, using the banking system to your advantage, you could turn those 2.5 million into a much bigger sum of money, instead of just spending it non-stop.

So yes, it can last an entire lifetime, if you know what to do with money.
User avatar #150 to #100 - capslockrage (10/14/2013) [-]
Ok is this 300 american dollars? do you use usd, or are you converting your money to usd?

In america 300 usd is like what mexicans make coming over and working for almost nothing.

I spend about $80 in food per week just for two people, so $300 a month would just cover my food. Then my rent is $175 per week. Then my cable/internet/phone bundle is $150 a month.
User avatar #155 to #150 - thegrayfox (10/14/2013) [-]
Yes, I'm talking about USD.

And yes, I'm converting my currency into yours.

Rent here, for an alright apartment is around 200 dollars a month.
So, people who live under a landlord, usually have more people with income (wife+husband, no children).

Since, you'd be left with almost nothing if you lived alone.

Over here, if you had ~300 000 USD, you could live for the rest of your life, easily. (assuming you're around my age, which is 23).

Take 150 000, live off of that.
Assuming you spend 500 dollars a month, which is amazing for a single person.
That would last you ~25 years.

Put the other 150 000 into a bank, to collect interest. In 25 years that interest would amount to around 112 000 dollars (not adjusting for inflation or interest change).

So, you'd end up with around 260 000 dollars by the time you're 50.

Rinse and repeat.
User avatar #172 to #155 - capslockrage (10/14/2013) [-]
What crap country do you live in?
In america for one person, they would have to live in poverty to live 50 years off 1 million.

If you make less than $2 million in your lifetime then you lived poorly. In america at least.
Minimum wage is about $8 an hour here, and that's ****** .

User avatar #175 to #173 - capslockrage (10/15/2013) [-]

User avatar #178 to #177 - thegrayfox (10/16/2013) [-]

Poor country = We're living in mud huts and we're starving to death, right?

With whatever money you came from the US, to live here, you'd live infinitely better than in the US. It's a fact.

But if you choose to ignore that, it's your choice to make. Just don't go around, thinking that just because a country is cheaper, that it's complete trash.

It's just a different living standard.
User avatar #151 to #150 - capslockrage (10/14/2013) [-]

Yes, because you'll achieve something by insulting my country?

Learn what a living standard is. You can live comfortably with 300 dollars, if you live alone. Quite comfortably.

I live with a roommate, our electricity bill is around 5-6 dollars a month. Pretty sure you'd sell your grandmother to have electricity that cheap.
User avatar #118 to #108 - admiralen ONLINE (10/14/2013) [-]
except you cant live of that unless you live in a trashcountry, its cheap for a reason, the rest of the world cant live of 300 bucks, the cost for hiring a really small apartment is more than that

Actually, my country is in 74h to 79th place (depending on the source of the statistic) in the world by GDP(PPP) which is still in the better 50% of the world.

So hey, it's not the best ever, but it's still not a "trashcountry" as you like to call it.
We have problems, but we're far from trash.

As you can see, I have access to the internet (ADSL 4Mb down, not much but it's enough). The highest you can get is 100Mb down. It's not Google Fiber, but it's more than the average person needs.

I can afford a decent computer, so again... Trash?

It's not the best country on Earth, but it's not Somalia.

You have no idea what a "living standard" is, and that's why you make ignorant statements like that.

Bread in my country costs ~0.40 cents (USD)
Bread in the UK costs ~1 pound. which is around 1.60 USD
Bread in the USA costs ~2.2 dollars.

So, by your logic, your bread is better, because it costs more? You're simply an idiot. I'll just assume you're a dumb teenager who doesn't know any better.

I know i'm probably just feeding the troll but here are the main differences between my land and america.(I'm not saying it's better cuz every country has its good points and drawbacks)
1.American colleges cost from around $20,000 to about $160,000 for all 4 years. Here we pay almost nothing.(And don't tell me our colleges don't have a high quality education because a lot of our graduates work all over the world.Mainly Germany and America.
2.American Taxes are too damn You need to login to view this link our country they aren't.
3.Bills here are ridiculously low.We pay like 150 for all of them and that's only because my family waster a lot of electricity and water.
I could go on and on and on but i'm a bit tired and i really don't have the time nor the nerve to argue with someone on the internet who doesn't want to get it into his thick skull that his country is the best.Plus my goverment still works.Cheers!!

And they'd all scale, for the most part.

My electricity bill is around 5-6 dollars a month.
Goes up to around 9-10 dollars during the winter.

In the US, Verizon has a package of 15Mbps down for 49.99 USD
Here, for 43 dollars you get 30Mbps down.

Sure, not all things scale evenly, but there is a difference, and that's why you're clueless.

I live in a "trash country" as you call it - Poland. Our minimum wage is only 350 euros or 1400 zloty (our currency) - accounting for product prices, bills, locomotion etc. its a lot less than 1400 dollars is to you, i can't give you an exact estimate but it's something in the range of 600 - 700 dollars but still enough to make a living, people living in such countries are used to less comfort but also spend their money wisely and fix stuff mostly by themselves. Although we are poor our financial status is thought provoking and forces people to be self dependent and completely self sufficient. Also we appreciate what we have and don't bitch about not having stuff which is a good thing in my opinion.

Well yeah living in a country like that has its obvious drawbacks but it isn't trash, people are trying their hardest to change the way things are and year by year its getting better. But being ravaged by wars and a former part of communist block its obviously crippled by the fact it had no good infrastructure or economy to begin with and you can't expect for it catch up in mere 20 years. This is actually a little confusing. If you really were listed as the legal inheritor on your grandmother's will, legally your relatives could only hold on to the money until you became an adult (assuming the relatives were designated as your property guardian, which if not specified the court will designate one). Unless I am misunderstanding this, and your are saying that your relatives convinced your grandmother to change her will before she passed. Otherwise, You have a legal right to that inheritance now that you are of age. I would recommend taking another look at that will, I believe your relatives owe you some dough.

My parents liked to do this thing where they'll tell me to raise the money for something, but when I did, they'd tell me to save it and refuse to let me get it.

Then they'd just buy me the thing themselves and give it to me for christmas. The most notable time this happened was when I somehow raised the money for a Gamecube.

I fully realize that it was just so I could have my cake, and eat it to with respect to the money I raised, but still it was quite a lot of *********** for my elementary school aged mind to have to deal with.

Don't forget that even if you do somehow manage to win/convince them in an argument, they forget it ever happened about 2 seconds later.

Rant: I swear to god I broke down while on the phone with my mom and when I got home it was as if it had never happened... I've been to 2 psychometrists, a therapist and a private BRAIN TRAINING centre.
The thing is... Both psychometrists came up with results saying I was highly intelligent and that I should have behavioural therapy so we did that, but that bitch was useless and was trying to give me goals in my life. I'm sorry but that's not going to correct my behaviour, I'll just get the target goals done and return to being a complete loser simply because I cannot bring myself to do anything. SO THEN THEY SEND ME TO THE CENTRE. Guess what the centre says? I'm damn smart. The end. Well **** mom, I guess that whole speech I gave you about being able to just lie down and die somehow made you come to the conclusion that I'm... Too stupid to live?
My priority list:
People (who I never see because everyone's got their own lives as soon as high school is finished and even though I went to university I found that the people come and go there way too much as well)
PC browsing/socializing/watching/listening/reading/playing ( **** yes but of course the family HATES this.)
Reading books ( **** yes this is where it was at before I got a decent PC but somehow my parents seem to have forgotten that and think the problem all lies with the PC)
Legos (Did this before I got into reading. **** yes, would do this along in my room for hours but once again, family completely forgets how much I STILL ENJOY IT. I just like the PC better.)
Excercising/dancing/singing: Only ever do it by myself, which is why I hardly do it though I enjoy it a lot. Can do with friends but not in the presence of anyone else.
Sleeping: From this point onward, nothing matters. If you take the other options away, I will eat/sleep and die. Don't care.
User avatar #119 to #115 - tigronn (10/14/2013) [-]
i didnt read that rant fully, but it comes to my understanding that you have the same issue as me, parents think that noone is smart unles they're perfectly equal to themselves, not even trying to listen and reason with the others' opinions let alone admit that such is better then their own, th only hope for humanity is that future people will be not as dull as current parents nor as just ******* retarded as most kids nowadays
User avatar #123 to #119 - cormy (10/14/2013) [-]
The thing is that when people become older and more experienced they learn a lot of things and unfortunately they believe that you need to be their age in order to understand it or see it from their perspective.
It's not that they don't think we're smart, it's that they think that with all the knowledge they've accrued, they couldn't possibly be wrong. Or something... I don't know. It just seems completely futile to bother interactive with my family, at all. People who have not experienced the internet have NO IDEA how to be neutral/critical/accepting of new things.
The one thing that never ceases to amaze me is their opinion on the computer. They keep saying it's a form of entertainment, an escape like gaming is. It's not, not for me. For me my computer is a modern day diary except the things that go into it aren't just by me, they're by everyone I've ever interacted with on here. It's a log of my entire online life. Everything I've said and everything others have said in relation to me, it's all here. I love going back to read some of my older posts and rants to see how far I've come. Everytime I get into an argument with someone on the net, I become a better person as long as the other person is willing to actually argue with me while trying to PROVE his point, not just sayin mine is wrong. I can honestly say that since I turned 14, the internet has been raising me because my family can't do it anymore. They're too busy and too far gone, my mom's not even 50 yet and I swear she's going senile. My father is set in his ways and my sister is the worst possible incarnation of the newgen you can imagine. Her favourite word is "like" and she LOVES to deny and reject anything that goes against her, she'll also spend hours on the phone with one guy everyday. He's a big teddy bear and I am actually witnessing the friendzone first-hand. Obviously the dude loves my sister but all she does is dump her thoughts and problems onto him because he listens. She must be purged.
User avatar #125 to #123 - tigronn (10/14/2013) [-]
hm, kinda similar, i mean,my dad's an asshole and a betrayer, my brother is all ok but he doesnt exacly visit often, like twice a year, including christmas and newyear, and my mom, well, she is fine but damn, she's such an IDIOT, to almost everything i ask "why" to she says something like "because im your mother an im always right", yet still she asks me for help all the time in the simplest things, it took her two ******* goddamn years to know what button you need to press to actually turn your pc on/off... i keep telling her something she doesnt seem to get, a pc uses the same "language" as we do, its not hard to ******* understand the basics, i was about 4 when i learned ALL the very basics, in like, one ******* hour, how hard can it possibly be?
