Deductive fallacy
User avatar #167 to #166 - twofreegerbils (12/09/2013) [-]
Nice try, but not at all.

"Non-nerds don't apologize for being dickheads"

He's clearly saying that non-nerds are dickheads
User avatar #169 to #167 - revengeforfreeze (12/09/2013) [-]
It still leaves the possibility open for other things, so it's still a deductive fallacy look
1. Non-nerds don't apologize for being dickheads
2. Therefore non-nerds are dickheads
Not necessarily stating that
1. Non-nerds are dickheads
2. Non-nerds don't apologize for being dickheads
User avatar #168 to #167 - revengeforfreeze (12/09/2013) [-]
Not necessarily.

What if he's saying that non-nerds don't apologize for being dickheads because they aren't dickheads?

That, albeit improbable, is possible. He most likely isn't, but you can't use absolute logic.

Yes, at all.

I like the series, but tbh. he's about the only good actor there.
User avatar #39 to #21 - kiermatv (12/09/2013) [-]
Well, I like most of the characters playing them except for maybe Felicity, as she is just, in my opinion, just there for Fan service
and not in the "OH MY GOD, THEY HAVE [insert slightly unknown DC character and/or town] ON THE SHOW"
But in the other sense of the term, where she goes around in Librarian glasses and tight mini skirts, and does barely anything else to the show other than to have a nice ass to look at in between all of the shirtless men on the show (seriously, why with all the shots of Oliver without a shirt? he's a ******* billionaire, I think he could afford a fitness shirt or something, but no, we have to look at him with his tremendous abs and erect nipples all the time always, is it just to get female viewers? but I digress)
All in all, the people they have on that show are pretty good, for a [insert channel representative of the WB, here, in Wisconsin, it's the CW] show, but they couldn't have NOT had Felicity on there? I mean, Laurel and Sarah are okay, but they could have made more off an effort
#42 to #39 - gerfox (12/09/2013) [-]
Yeh, I agree that many of the actors are "okay", but they lack the actor who often makes a show, who makes it go from good, or decent, to awesome. Let's say a Michael C. Hall in Dexter, who imo portrays Dexter perfectly - or lets say a Joffrey in Game of Thrones who's fulfilling the role as a spoiled brat of a king perfectly. Or in a different genre a Hugh Laurie in House.

Perhaps Felicity will grow on her role, and improve. Let's hope so. I guess Felicity is important to work the middle ground between Oliver and Diggle and bring more that "emotional" level into the trio. I think maybe that's the angle of the directors. Look how Oliver reacted when she was abducted as well.

I kinda like Oliver's actor. He pulls of the brooding vigilante well enough (obviously he is no Christian Bale). Red Arrow's actor is also pretty good. But Felicity's actor sucksssss.
#24 to #23 - gerfox (12/09/2013) [-]
Perhaps its just me, I feel that Oliver's portrayal is too superficial. He comes out as without any flaws, and that just takes a crack at his credibility for me. Perhaps it's more of his character. I mean, what is he bad at in the series? He's got a "good heart", cares for everyone, doesn't want to kill, basically kicks the asses of everyone, is rich, successfully runs a corporation, is a good son and brother. His only flaws are of the past. You would've thought he'd be a bit more cocky of his skills if he was as good as he is, or that he'd be even more scarred by his experiences on the island.

I feel they could've found a better actor for that role. But he'll do!

I like Slade's actor though, he was good in Spartacus as well.
User avatar #30 to #24 - Kyag (12/09/2013) [-]
Well, during the recent episodes, you can see how the Island really began taking a toll on him. With the whole "Super Soldier" plot thats going on right now, it really shows how much it took from him all of his interactions on the island (Especially Deathstroke and Sarah).

He's got some flaws, like how he becomes emotionally involved regardless of how much hell he gives everybody else for it (The Huntress is a nice example), and how he is seemingly blind to the pain others are feeling (like when he couldn't accept his mother having her reasons for wanting to go to jail). Also the whole can't kill thing is only in this season and for fairly good reason too, since perhaps nothing hurt him more than his best friend calling him a murderer. He constantly tries to bring people into his life and push them out (like with Roy) without much thinking ahead.

The character has his flaws, they aren't too blatant but they are there. Still, I understand your preoccupation's with the character.
User avatar #37 to #30 - lucariopwnz (12/09/2013) [-]
Yea I agree, physcially he is a pretty solid character but emotionally is where he has a lot of his trouble, especially recently with Tommy's death, Laurel/Sarah relationship, and this new serem that apparently makes dudes who can kick the **** out of him haha... so pumped for Wednesday's episode
User avatar #108 to #37 - mauerman ONLINE (12/09/2013) [-]
We need some stronger emotional scenes from Oliver. I think that'll give more credibility to his character.

Deathtstroke is in Arrow? How prominent a role is he?
User avatar #139 to #52 - Kyag (12/09/2013) [-]
The series divides itself into 2 timeframes. 1 present and flashback to "The Island". Deathstroke is basically the second protagonist of "The Island"

protaganist for now... but remember the two colored balaclava with the arrow through it sort of as a shrine or trophy during the pilot and first episode of season 2. Makes me think he wasn't always a good guy
User avatar #178 to #172 - Kyag (12/09/2013) [-]
That Mask is a foreshadowing of the plot to come. I kinda know where it's headed but I don't wanna say anything. Anybody who saw last Wednesday's episode and heard Oliver's comment about the super soldiers know where that mask will eventually come from.
User avatar #179 to #178 - lucariopwnz (12/09/2013) [-]
I saw the episode but still not sure what you mean. It was my theory (and yes just a guess) you know what I'll put the little hide thing here in case of spoilers: it was my theory that the serum would save Slade but also make him bug out or whatever. His burned face makes him need the mask and eventually he goes nuts and turns on Oliver forcing him to put an arrow through his face IDK truth be told I don't know much about the comics or the characters so I'm not sure whats to come
User avatar #180 to #179 - Kyag (12/09/2013) [-]
This aspect of the show is completely original plot. The Island part of the comic ends right after they destroy the military base. Only its not a military base, but actually a drug smuggling operation. And Oliver did it alone, he never met Deathstroke or the asian chick.

What I mean I think will happen is: The serum will definitely save him, and he will go crazy. But not so much for random reasons, but rather because he is in love with asian lady (I think her name is Shadow). Oliver said in the last episode right before he went to fight against Solomon Grundy (oh yeah, the roided out henchmen of Sebastian Blood is Solomon Grundy before dying): "I know how to take him, I've defeated somebody like him before". Hence the mask on the beach. Which he wore back when he was still partnered up with Wintergreen (the torturer from the first season who Deathstroke kills)

Nerds can be dick-heads.
And of course not every nerd is, as Mr Barrowman says. But I have experienced more nerds then non-nerds apologies for things that they have done if they are considered dick-headish.
So everyone can be dick-heads, and everyone can apologies for being one, but it really depends on who you are, what you see in certain people, and what kind of experience you have.
So it's really up to debate.
