What kind of endoctrinating and fascistic school are you going to? Damn, a country that allows such rules in school is destined to become an idiocracy... What you're doing is pretty awesome though.

It's becoming more and more common, our (US) schools cut funding to the public schools for no reason other than to give the money to someone else that doesn't need it.
User avatar #128 to #2 - Ruspanic (11/19/2013) [-]
It's a private school. They should absolutely be allowed to have these sorts of rules if they want. It is not on the government to "allow" them to do things. No one is forcing parents to send their kids there.

Just a thought, but what if the school is using reverse psychology?
"Hey student, read this book."
" **** it, I just read it summed up on the net."
But this way:
"Listen you little ***** ! Do not dare to read these books! Do not even think about reading them!"
"You don't tell me what to do! There must be something cool in it if you don't want me to read it, right? I'll read it."
Or something like that, you get the idea.

User avatar #130 to #2 - thedrgonzo (11/19/2013) [-]
Since it's a private school, the government can't dictate what the school allows in terms of curricula and such. The country has nothing to do with it, just the cock monglers who make the decisions in that particular institution.
#159 to #130 - smbiosis (11/19/2013) [-]
As opposed to the cockmonglers in DC making those decisions instead? Or opposed to the cockmonglers on the local school board?

WHO THE **** ACTUALLY LIKES THE CATCHER IN THE ******* RYE?

The dude whines and cries about how unfair life is, tries to get with his friends mother, then whines because she didn't fall all over him. It's a stupid piece of **** .
User avatar #189 to #17 - thedrgonzo (11/20/2013) [-]
Holden Caulfield is an enormous cunt and a pretty messed up dude, but the book is about portraying that cuntyness in a way that seems like its from an actual person, not just a character
#136 to #17 - anon (11/19/2013) [-]
I loved it. Books send a different message to everyone who reads them. I happened to like the message I got from The Catcher in the Rye (and I was intrigued by the writing style. I thought it was very true to the character. Not everyone is going to be able to set aside their personal feelings about the writing style and enjoy the book). There are always going to be books that are classics, but you don't like or see the value of. For example, I despise the novel 1984. I think it's one of the most boring and paranoid novels I've ever read, but there are many people who enjoy it.

I like The Catcher In The Rye. I found his whining a little funny and his odd relationships with people were interesting.

I agree, and the first parts of it is basically only about that cunts toenails.
#20 to #17 - anon (11/19/2013) [-]
It's supposed to be like that, the entire book was a character study into the mind of a cynical teenager.

You don't have to like the protagonist for him to be interesting.

So if I write a book about a little pile of **** and how much it stinks, you can't say it's a bad book because it's supposed to be about **** ?

Animal Farm is probably the bookmark (no pun intended) of your school trying to impose a LACK of thought and understanding. I found it quintessential to finding the powers of corruption and revolution, how those who rise up become just like the ones they overthrew. That, and Orwell's other work, 1984, formed a greater understanding in me during high school. For a school to ban books is like barring education in the classroom.

Unless they formed an ulterior motive to get kids to READ these books, in which case, holy **** that's cunning.
#133 to #118 - anon (11/19/2013) [-]
I hated animal farm in 8th grade- But then I realized it enlightened me. About revolutions etc. etc. (not gonna write all of it.) Now I think it's a pretty good book.

The name of the book isn't Dante's Inferno, the name of the book is Inferno, the author is Dante.
User avatar #173 to #114 - lateday (11/20/2013) [-]
It is the Divine Comedy. Inferno is one part of the poem.
User avatar #115 to #105 - schmitty (11/19/2013) [-]
Also, The Divine Comedy is about Dante and his search for his wife/lover Beatrice. Virgil is his guide through Hell, Purgatory and Heaven.

Absolutely not. The main reason I think this is fake is because the poster claims that it's a Catholic school. I go to a Catholic high school, and our administration actually goes out of its way to make sure "banned" books are on the library shelves.

Warning: Rant and opinion time.
This is the kinda **** that gets me. Banning novels in school because they don't pertain to the Catholic faith? **** you. Children should be open to many ideas besides one they have known or were forced upon their entire life. Children who are happy with Private school rules and lifestyle? Good for you. But children who are curious to learn about other ideas besides the ones presented before them? Let them ******* read. Disabling their desire to learn will make them feel trapped. It will blind them from so many other thoughts and perspectives out there in the world. Let them make the decision what to think after looking into other aspects of life.

User avatar #125 to #124 - eddymolly ONLINE (11/19/2013) [-]
Peva? I think i'm missing something, I googled it and why would people who like Ethylene-vinyl acetate not like Ridge?
User avatar #129 to #125 - herremu (11/19/2013) [-]
Apparently, Peva, who was an admin of the time on the server, was abusing his powers and such. He also was pissed because Lewis wouldn't accept his videos and wanted him to be on the website to moderate. Ridge was sent in to deal with him and he was apparently acting "Non-Professionally" and had him banned. I really don't have an opinion on the matter, but I can't really speak for what happened. I mainly just read what and heard what had happened. Here's a conversation they had that pissed Peva off. soundcloud.com/peva3/last-conversation-with
