Lol same here. I loved the part when he asked about Obama being the last black president, which is what made me think it wasn't scripted cuz the look on Obamas face x3=

I just mean I like the guy. I said nothing about if he was a good president or not. I just like him. I liked Bush as a person, hated him as a president. Buuuut, since you brought it up, I'll talk about him as a president. First off, didn't vote for him. I regret that now, honestly, because I think hes doing alright. I would vote for him now (well, I can't vote for anyone, I'm not american, but still, didn't vote for him), not for his humor, but because I like his policies. I feel they help overall, even if a few things are held back by them. I have my issues with him of course, there are better ways to do healthcare, and something needs to ******* be done about the American budget (that goes for every country in the world but Switzerland and Whales though), but overall, I think he is doing decently well running America. I'm not going to pretend I'm smart or strong enough to be president, I'd be a **** president, hell, I'm not even American, so I can't be president, I live in Munich. But still, from what I can tell, he isn't half bad.

I actually think that guy had a point, but couldn't explain himself properly.

When he says "Legitimate rape", he's thinking of rape so violent and rough it causes serious damage to a woman's reproductive parts. Logically after that, the body would no longer support an embryo from forming.

Fortunately (or unfortunately for Akin) most rape isn't that brutal, so his argument falls flat on it's ass.

Just some thinking I had when I heard that, and that gif brought back the memories. I don't agree with him obviously, but I can't believe he'd be that stupid.
User avatar #57 to #56 - republicofserbia (03/11/2014) [-]
I think that he might have meant the same thing.
User avatar #274 to #56 - ciacheczko (03/12/2014) [-]
I think that what you wrote is an absolute load of **** . This guy is that stupid. And your comment isn't far from it either.
#314 to #274 - riayl (03/12/2014) [-]
How is what I wrote a load of **** ? You can't deny that if a woman's uterus were to be damaged enough becoming pregnant would not be possible.

I like to think the best of people, and that Akin was trying to make a point. However, all the circumstances of his "argument" are false, but at least he intended to be serious, hopefully. In this case it isn't really "The woman's body shutting it all down" but "The woman's body is physically incapable of allowing an embryo to attach to the wall of the uterus, due to physical trauma."

Women should be able to get abortions. Whether it's because of rape or medical issues, I don't care. Ideally the process of signing up for an abortion would be emotionally traumatizing enough to deter anyone besides those who really needed/wanted it. In any case, protection is obviously more effective, but sometimes you can't account for that. (i.e. rape, and medical issues after trying to get pregnant)

But you're just an asshole, so I guess you wouldn't understand.

but he made me giggle so he's a pretty cool guy"
User avatar #97 to #96 - lolollo (03/12/2014) [-]
Because the opposite is soo much better.

"Yes, I know, that, like, Obama is a tually down to earth on most issues today, but he wants to take our guns away, so **** dat guy!"
User avatar #103 to #97 - mikepetru (03/12/2014) [-]
Him being a down to earth guy and making a funny is inconsequential to my life. He can pursue his acting career after his term is over. Gun rights on the other hand, are an ACTUAL social issue, and so, his stands on such an issue are actually relevant to me forming an opinion of him as a leader, rather than a comedian. Hitler had a good personality, that didn't make him a great leader. Not saying Obama is Hitler, but if you base your opinion of leaders on how funny they are, you can be sure that they'll have the last laugh.
User avatar #176 to #103 - thatoneiranianguy ONLINE (03/12/2014) [-]
But....Hitler was a great leader. A very good one at that.
User avatar #106 to #103 - lolollo (03/12/2014) [-]
I don't base it on how funny he is, but it is a little hard to agree with a group of people who think the government is doesn't something it has absolutely no interest in.

For example, I'm guessing you think they actually want to make minimum wage all the way up at $15 don't you?
User avatar #109 to #106 - mikepetru (03/12/2014) [-]
Now you're going off topic. My point in my original post is that I'm surprised people in the comments are responding so positively to Obama over this video. Yes it was funny, but I'm glad to know with all the **** going on in this country he has time to do sketch comedy.
User avatar #112 to #109 - lolollo (03/12/2014) [-]
It's confirmation bias. People like the guy, so they tend to **** themselves over the positive things he does, no matter how insignificant. The same goes in reverse, where people constantly have to bring up all of the bad **** he does to try and downplay anything good he does.
#119 to #112 - theseustheminotaur (03/12/2014) [-]
That is absolutely correct. People who dislike him will find any reason to, those who like him will find reasons to like him more. People seem to be unaware when they are exhibiting confirmation bias I have found.
User avatar #278 to #109 - AdamBaum (03/12/2014) [-]
You just don't like Obama for your reasons stated earlier, and that dislike has blinded you, he's not on BTF for fun or on his own accord, he's plugging and advertising Obamacare to the younger generation who watch that show, which is alot. Every president ever down to your mayor does **** like this.
#113 to #109 - theseustheminotaur (03/12/2014) [-]
See, there is no winning with this kind of logic. "I'm glad he has the time for ..."

Every president took vacation, every president did stuff that wasn't part of their main job description. Get over it. If you want to attack his stances on issues do that, but don't make everything he does a reason for criticism.
User avatar #116 to #113 - mikepetru (03/12/2014) [-]
A vacation is a vacation, it has nothing to do with furthering his political career. Obama most likely agreed to do this video because as stated above, it would make him look like a cool, funny down to earth guy to general youtube audiences, thus scoring points with the American people.
User avatar #202 to #116 - rapterjesus (03/12/2014) [-]
You should do some more research before you criticize. He actually went on the show to plug Healthcare.gov. The show reaches a demographic which needs to sign up for healthcare for the ACA scheme to work. So he was doing his job. No scandal here folks.
#118 to #116 - theseustheminotaur (03/12/2014) [-]
A president going to the media in order to help his image is different from what other presidents have done and will do?
User avatar #122 to #118 - mikepetru (03/12/2014) [-]
A president should use the media in order to convey his political ideologies, not to make jokes. Sadly, the general populace seems to respond better to a good personality rather than good principles, so yes other presidents have done this in the past, but it doesn't make it right, nor is it wise for people to indulge them in these frivolous endeavors at gaining political support through a means completely unrelated to politics.
#128 to #122 - theseustheminotaur (03/12/2014) [-]
Kissing babies and shaking hands is one of the oldest political campaign strategies, it does exactly what you're saying they shouldn't do. Presidents always poise themselves in a way that endears them to whatever section of the populous they happen to be visiting, it is the way politics has been done. Its why politicians volunteer in soup kitchens during the campaign trail, and never again afterwards.
To single out this president for doing what other presidents have done seems intellectually dishonest.
I would much rather you engage in discussion about his stances and policies than just taking potshots. For all I know, you could be saying this about every politician of the past 40 years, but I'm used to seeing this kind of behavior in every comment section of every news article that is even remotely related to Obama.
User avatar #115 to #96 - mastersaturday (03/12/2014) [-]
You really think drone strikes and diplomacy are all hinged upon the decisions of one man? Sure he's the president, but there's no way he has that much influence on his own.
User avatar #117 to #115 - mikepetru (03/12/2014) [-]
Well I'm glad to know the COMMANDER IN CHIEF of the US Military doesn't have that much influence over the military.
User avatar #120 to #117 - lolollo (03/12/2014) [-]
So you're a fan for giving one man a majority of the power to run a country?

They have a word for that...I think Britain still has it.
User avatar #125 to #120 - mikepetru (03/12/2014) [-]
I think you've forgotten the president can't declare war unless he gets a majority vote from Congress. Checks and Balances. Unfortunately, recent presidents seem to ignore this clause and Congress lets them get away with it. He wouldn't have a majority of power over the country, but I think as top executive of his government branch, he has the power/influence to overrule an attack order from a lesser rung on his branch.
User avatar #127 to #125 - lolollo (03/12/2014) [-]
Really? That's what you think happened? Congress barely let Healthcare slip through, and now that it has, they're feverishly trying to take it back. You really think Congress would have let a declaration of war (which doesn't exist, we're not at war with Russia, that's just another petty scare people want as a reality to complain about) happen?
