its a hobby for some, my current setup cost me about $1k total. A Teac ud-h01 DAC > Shiit lyr tube headphone amp > Sennheiser HD650s. the sound is amazing. also +1 for gurren lagann.

Everyone should be passionate about headphones. It boggles my mind that people can still walk around with Skullcandies or Beats in their ears, because it means they paid top dollar for under par sound quality.

User avatar #393 to #390 - dropdeadbiotch (06/12/2014) [-]
I don't have any money, the most I've paid was around 60 dollars for turtle beaches around three or four years ago. I still use them today. But I listen to music all the time
User avatar #402 to #393 - scant (06/12/2014) [-]
Well there you go.
I know not everyone has wads of cash to blow on headphones, but all too often I see people defending whatever brand they happen to have simply because they've never had the opportunity to try anything better.
Instead of spending a small amount on a crappy pair of whatevers, I saved my money for ages until I had enough to buy a serious pair, and there's really no comparison.
#451 to #402 - basanso (06/12/2014) [-]
What if that person is still saving up money and skullcandies or whatever is all they can get. Skullcandy Ink'd are $20, are fairly durable, and sound decent. It's all I am able to buy until I can get a pair of good Klipsch. They're better(in my opinion) than most available lower tier alternatives (JVC, Ifrogs, other horrible sounding headphones, etc.) and are rather plentiful. People have to defend whatever brand they have because it might just be all they can afford. While I respect your opinion, I have to disagree. Shelling out $150 isn't very easy for something like headphones. Red thumb all you want. I shall go down, content with my opinion. inb4 opinion on the internet
User avatar #467 to #451 - scant (06/12/2014) [-]
You didn't refute my opinion at all... My point was that you can listen to whatever you like, but if you've never had the experience of listening to a really good set of headphones you can't really be the judge of whether or not Skullcandies are indeed 'decent'.
User avatar #560 to #467 - animationhac (06/12/2014) [-]
I have to say... Compared to other 20 dollar head phones, skull candies are pretty good... And I've bought a lot of cheapos and skulls have lasted longer then any pair i got at the same cost. I am not saying investing into expensive headphones is bad but for cheap and fast wear, skulls arent bad.
User avatar #561 to #560 - scant (06/12/2014) [-]
Skullcandies colour the sound a lot. Their frequency responses are far from flat, and they make no attempts to hide it. I'd rather get a pair of headphones that at least has a semi decent response rate, instead of something that resembles a mountain range across all frequencies.
#535 to #467 - wagastragas (06/12/2014) [-]
they are cheap and durable, thats decent enough, obv yyou need to pay more for better than being scamed with beats
User avatar #407 to #402 - dropdeadbiotch (06/12/2014) [-]

User avatar #331 to #259 - subcelestial (06/12/2014) [-]
The Skullcandy Aviators are actually pretty good. But, to my knowledge, they're the only decent headphones by Skullcandy.
User avatar #352 to #331 - scant (06/12/2014) [-]
Looking at their frequency response graph, they have way too much boost in the 50-500Hz range. Which might not be so bad if that didn't include everything from 150 to 300, which is just going to make things sound muddy.

If someone is gonna drop so much money on headphones they clearly care about music. If they can't spend 30 minutes checking out the difference between beats and other headphones before dropping ridiculous cash on the crap they're probably an idiot.
User avatar #330 to #280 - tylermcall (06/12/2014) [-]
Beats quality is certainly not terrible and it is a well-known brand of headphones. Most people buy it because it is easily identifiable and it isn't the worst in sound quality. It all comes down Beats being a popular brand, and just like Lacoste, Rolex, Ferrari, and Nike, none are far superior than their competitors, yet people don't look down on these people who purchase all the prior products. Plus anyone who looks down on what someone purchases just comes off as really superficial and kind of a douche.
TL;DR Who cares what people buy?

Got any of those for earbuds or (preferably) clip-style headphones? I've currently got a pair of Klipsch S4s. They sound amazing... as long as I'm sitting still. They tend to slip out, and they have terrible cord noise (I get to hear the cord thunk with every step).

Oh, and the reason I want that style as opposed to an over-the-head design is because they'll get tossed around in my backpack, and I can't be assed to deal with a case.

That's actually not that much it depends on the Wattage they need and the Voltage. ATM I'm using Sennheiser HD650 at 300ohm. They only get 350mW, but a lot more Volt than the Planars. The planars to really bloom though don't need much volatage, but at least 800mW. I hope that helps. That is why you can drive Planars from mobile devices and they actually become quite loud, but will easily distort since the lack of stable voltage. When you try to use my sennns on my phone you won't hear a lot since the lack of voltage.

People buy beats to show to the world that they can afford the luxury of a renown brand, as they do with apple computers. No financially challenged person in their right mind would buy them for their performance / cost efficiency.

Oh God, I went to a fancy college where people from New Jersey, Staten Island, and Long Island would dump their children for four years and EVERYONE had Beats, Northface jackets, and iPhones. The products aren't necessarily bad, but they aren't great for the money. I knew all of them were getting these things just because they wanted to look cool and because they had no idea what else they could have had in place of their Beats or iPhones or whatever.

That's the thing that always got me... When I saw people walking around with these products and knowing that they literally saw a commercial or saw someone with them and, instead of researching for just a few minutes, asked their mommy or daddy that, as an accessory to the new white BMW that they were getting for Christmas, that they can get Dre Beats as well. But whatever. It was just something that got to me. They weren't bad people, just clueless. I guess I'm no better, as I'm complaining about it on a website that has a dedicated MLP fanbase/picture board.

Or you could be like me and I got both of mine as gifts. I never asked for them, I got my first pair as a birthday gift from my boyfriend (I dunno why he wanted to get me such an expensive gift but oh well) and they have been fine for surviving 2 years worth of dropping/abuse in general. The other I got as a gift from my dad for I don't even remember; maybe just cuz. They're great too. I don't listen to hip hop or rap or any of that, and I won't deny that other brands of headphones are probably better, but I think it has a lot to do with the style of the headphones. For example, many of the recommended headphones out there look odd, and I wouldn't really feel comfortable having huge outlandish headphones out in public. It's just my two cents tho.
