these types of toys serve as avatars for young children. forcing a male child to project himself on to a female avatar could lead to him, subconsciously adopting traits more commonly associated with females, for the sake of play.

Logical and true in my opinion, I remember playing with toys and we would always have a hero that we would personify as ourselves (me and my buddy).
