how does it require order? and how does it stay in place once pushed?
#52 to #45 - captainkrobin (08/16/2014) [-]
You use the bottom pick (I forget the name) to rotate the chamber, creating a tiny ledge for the pins to rest on once pushed.

Traditional lock picking is quite difficult, and nowadays it's obsolete. Pick guns and bump keys can open almost any lock with traditional tumblers, and it's also illegal to own a pick set.

Uncle is a third generation locksmith, I was really into it in high school

lockpicks are legal as long as you dont show criminal intent in most places
User avatar #29 to #2 - dudeyouisnasty (08/15/2014) [-]
if you're good you can silently open a lock in 30 seconds with a lockpick, pick guns, bump and jiggler keys are loud. However none of that really matters if you are abiding the law and just gaining entry to your own property. Or the property of which the owner has consented to you opening (preferably in writing and present during).

My friend owns a lock smithing business in Arizona, and he has no licenses whatsoever, and all of the tools.

I don't know of a single place in the states where lockpicking sets are illegal.
#28 to #2 - corenbeulve (08/15/2014) [-]
In most states they are only illegal if you have criminal intent, and are legally considered the same as a crowbar or blowtorch.
#4 to #2 - anon (08/15/2014) [-]
It's not illegal to carry a pick set here in Georgia.

I agree that bump keys are useful I've never had much luck with pick guns. People always think i'm breaking their lock when I use bump keys though so I usually pick the lock just so they don't complain.

Wait, I own a lock pick set. I did not know it is illegal.
User avatar #26 to #7 - vorarephilia (08/15/2014) [-]
In america it depends on the state. Tennessee criminalizes ownership without licence, other states are OK but consider owning it criminal intent, the rest don't give a damn.

I tried a BIC once, it KINDA did the trick but after 2 uses it became soft and unusable. I find you can easily fold a pop can into one

They're not that bad. It's really skill that determines how well it will work. Hell, you could use a screwdriver if you wanted.

**** that, lockpicking takes forever. I've personally done it in reality, and it took a long ass time.

It's WAY easier to get a hold of one of those special keys, I forget the name of them, but it's like this blank key looking thing, and you stick it in the lock, tap it with a hammer, and turn, and boom, the lock opens immediately. Takes like 2 seconds.
