"BB" is the size of the shotgun shot that was used as the single projectile for a "BB" gun.

As in between "B" and "BBB".

It never stood for ball bearing. BB's were originally shotgun shot, not friggin' bearings.

BB's were never used for shotguns, friendo. Traditional Shot has always lead.
A BB would **** up a barrel over time, plus lead is heavier, meaning it hits harder.

I usually just put orange tape on the end. Also be careful with it in the front of your car. My buddy got told to get out of his car and then got pushed against the hood and handcuffed because in places such as ohio it's pretty illegal to have a weapon in the front of your car. His air rifle got mistaken

Texas here and one of these metal air pistols on top of my friends insurance paper got a cop to pull his gun on us and had pretty much the same experience. That's what I was referring to though, keep it in the trunk, mags out, ect.

It's dope. I have a full-metal M4 that would get me ******* shot if I left the house holding it.

I know buckshot goes be 0, 00, or 000. But bird shot goes by like #5 or #7. BB is unique, just never knew why it's different than other shotgun shots

This isn't true either, air pistol/rifle calibers are measured the same as real rounds. Standard stuff is 4.5mm, but there are air rifles in almost every caliber from 9mm balls/pellets to .50 caliber.

The round shot that is used in pellet guns is the size as the BB shot within a shotgun shell, thats why calling them BB guns became popular.

BB derives from shotgun pellet sizes, yes, but note the term derives. It does not apply anymore, and hasnt applied since 1900 (I don't think you're that old, are you?) Daisy Manufacturing created "round shots" for air powered guns, but the public used the term BB despite it being incorrect for the caliber, which resulted in the name round shot being forgotten and irrelevant almost immediately. Soon after, BB became a proper short term of, "Bearing Ball," for basically any round projectile, such as glass marbles for slings and slingshots, and the metal balls used in AP mines.

The original BB gun was called that because it used BB size shot. (.180 diameter)
Now they use a .177 diameter, but the original name stuck.
