It sticks into cardboard.. thats not exactly that hard.. sure itl break the skin, but short of an eye-shot (or an extremely lucky throat shot) this isnt likely to do much damage, plus now the enemy at the very least has a knife...
Better off with throwing stars, and they aren't even meant to be thrown directly at people (they are designed to be thrown into the ground, and then when the enemy chases, they step on them)

nice analysis, but consider this:
if a needle was used instead, and it was laced in poison, it would be a bit more effective. just add a few more springs and that should do the trick. Its for assassination purposes, so it would be more relevant to use a poison needle than a big knife.
#62 to #61 - BloodyTurds (11/05/2015) [-]
If a needle were used.. it would make more sense to use a blowpipe...
User avatar #64 to #62 - smartythechicken (11/05/2015) [-]
yeah but its supposed to be concealed, but yur point still stands, a blowdart would be more effective. i agree
#82 to #64 - BloodyTurds (11/05/2015) [-]
A needle inside a pen would be far more inconspicuous than this..
User avatar #108 to #82 - smartythechicken (11/06/2015) [-]
yeah but its more funny if someone kills you with a piece of candy than with office supplies
User avatar #70 to #61 - stifflimb (11/05/2015) [-]
You could also lace the knife with poison, the extra weight should allow it to fly properly a little longer than a needle shot from the hip, easier to aim and bigger intimidation with it.
User avatar #71 to #70 - smartythechicken (11/05/2015) [-]
never thought of it that way, thanks!
User avatar #72 to #71 - stifflimb (11/05/2015) [-]
Np m8, cudos for you to have an open mind about new ideas!
Though some kind of device that let lose a frag of needles would be awesome aswell, everything in front of you in 35-45 angle sprayed with poison needles!
#18 to #13 - cptamericanpsycho (11/05/2015) [-]
That would be caltrops, bud. Actual throwing shuriken were big 'ol four pointed spikes. They had quite a bit more heft than the "throwing stars" you can (still?) order from Bud K or Smokey mountain knife works.
#48 to #18 - anon (11/05/2015) [-]
"Shuriken, especially hira-shuriken, were also used in novel ways—they could be embedded in the ground, injuring those who stepped on them (similar to a caltrop or makibishi)"

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuriken#Usage

Their primary use varied and was not exclusive to any single action (other than be thrown in some fashion), however their list of multiple functions did include functioning as a caltrop.

In the US, improvised weaponry is 100% legal.

Good thing I don't have to live in that country.

#73 to #55 - anon (11/05/2015) [-]
Why? It's no great shakes living in the UK where you can only defend yourself with a phone call or a CCTV camera that might eventually catch whoever mugged or raped you.
User avatar #84 to #73 - ninesundev (11/05/2015) [-]
That's also an extreme I have to admit.

Germany has it quite right. France too, I hear nothing negative from there. Or Sweden, I think the whole norden council has it right.
#109 to #84 - anon (11/06/2015) [-]
True, and admittedly there is the opposite end of the spectrum where lack of legislation and safeguards result in regular mass shootings. Non-lethal self defence products should be entirely legal.
User avatar #110 to #109 - ninesundev (11/10/2015) [-]
Yes.

Tazer are illegal, but you can have pepper spray, which is enough in most cases, if not, just hold a lighter near it and it will be enough.

Handmade or modified weapons are legal, with some exceptions (can't be automatic rifles, certain classes of explosives).
There is a pro gun group that goes to voluntary gun buy backs with hundreds of homemade shotguns made from pipe/ fittings at around $10 ea, sells the guns in the buyback programs (usually $50-$100 ea) and uses the earnings to host gun rallies with gift card and sporting giveaways.

www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/does-individual-need-license-make-firearm-personal-use

"Does an individual need a license to make a firearm for personal use?

No, a license is not required to make a firearm solely for personal use. However, a license is required to manufacture firearms for sale or distribution."

Do your own research for more, Im busy.
User avatar #104 to #103 - elcreepo ONLINE (11/06/2015) [-]
Don't say things that require citations and then fail to provide in your original comment, then.

And wow, all these laws regulating guns but if you make a machine gun yourself that's all good and well. Neat loophole.
User avatar #105 to #104 - captchakid ONLINE (11/06/2015) [-]
The assumption is that the gun you make yourself can't be distrubted, and it will likely be of very poor quality. (i.e. unrifled, inaccurate, heavy, and uncomfortable.) Sure a gunsmith could make something crazy, but only he could use it otherwise fines/jail for both parties.
User avatar #106 to #105 - elcreepo ONLINE (11/06/2015) [-]
Yeah but if you have all the training you need to make a gun, which sure is a small amount of the population but still big enough to be a "risk to public safety" you can easily make some sickass **** that normally is illegal.

If you manufacture a gun from a full metal bb gun changing, adding and replacing the necessary **** and removing the orange tip is that still legal? Cos if so I'm gonna keep knowledge in my back pocket.
User avatar #107 to #106 - captchakid ONLINE (11/06/2015) [-]
Depends on state, California is known to ban all of that type of thing, like umbrella guns and pen guns and flashlight guns, as well as bb guns turned to real.

Legal issues aside, this thing could save your life if there is someone who blocked your knife, and is about to disarm you, but the two of you are still in the middle of grapple struggle...

The last thing the guy expects is to have a blade of of a knife, in the hand of a dude he is struggling to disarm, that is pointed at him, to suddenly get launched at his face...

It sticks into the ******* wood with enough force to warrant wiggling when pulling out. Sure as hell that thing will pierce skin like butter. Also, the point is, that if you shoot this into someone“s face, you can easily finish them of by strangling them or breaking their neck.

It has undeniable utility value in combat.
