y=-2x+1 isn't a slope. It's a line.
The +1 is unnecessary because there's no y axis.
and the slope is closer to -1/3.

I don't understand your math-speak and that makes me scared and angry.

If you're going to argue that the "intercept" is unjustified because of the lack of a coordinate system, you can't also argue for a slope.

You can define the positive Y direction as being up as is customary
But how could you possibly define a zero?
#16 to #10 - Rascal (02/11/2014) [-]
Having a left-bound y-axis is just as customary. The left side of the face seems like just as safe an assumption as an upwards y-axis

The only time I've ever seen Y on the left is if it's a 3-D graph and considering it's a flat photo with no reason to have a Z coordinate, there'd be no reason to have anything but +X to the right and +Y up.
At least where I'm from, 100% of people would do that

What he means is that there is no designated place for y=0, so an intercept doesn't actually tell us anything.

Neither does a slope unless you imagine that the y axis runs straight up. Which apparently is okay to assume, but its location isn't?
User avatar #18 to #15 - afaik ONLINE (02/11/2014) [-]
Pretty much, cause the Y axis always goes up
User avatar #9 to #8 - ugakicka (02/11/2014) [-]
So for all we know, the -2 slope is accurate, because the y-axis could be anywhere. Can we get a graph of this?

-2 slope.. do they even math?
User avatar #1 - thedecodedgamer (02/10/2014) [-]
Looks more like -1/3X+1
User avatar #2 to #1 - vexeranhd (02/10/2014) [-]
I'd say more like y=-1/3x+3
