I haven't seen that 1st episode in years, and I'll defend the ending 9 times out of 10, but that meat cart one is ******** , the women behind says something like "Got any money?", can't remember what Korra says, but it's something along the lines of Nah
Apparently, the show had planed it for a while since Korra was at an age where she'd be figuring out her sexuality. The problem is that the writers were too timid with the build up. And even the original end was a little vague since it seemed more like two friends going off on an adventure.
It wouldn't have bothered me if it wasn't so subtexty, there's no indication that they're anything more than just friends until the last scene, and that they chose to end the entire show with a half baked romance really burns my biscuits. The reason it was like that was that Nick didn't want to be overt so their hands were tied, but if you're not allowed to do something story wise then you wouldn't do it, don't find a way to half do it in a super non-committal way, it just comes off poorly. I'm also annoyed by what a boner people get over it, "oh a lesbian couple, how awesome", I don't imagine gays like being turned into everyone's, like, I don't know how to put it, special thing.(?) Like how all women want to have a gay friend, like they're an accessory or some **** . The whole point they're trying to make is that being gay isn't strange and doesn't make someone weird or special but that's what they're doing, gay pride parades also do that but that's irrelevant. If the network had allowed them to do it properly, or if the fans weren't so uncool about it, it wouldn't bother me, but they didn't and they weren't so it does. The whole last season (and various other parts of the show but mainly the last season) turned out to be ham fisted attempts at being "progressive", the whole thing with Wue getting rid of the monarchy, Lin talking about how having a monarchy is so outdated, and Korra saying she thought it was a great idea, all just felt like the writers talking at rather tan to the audience saying "royalty is bad", well that might be the case but this is a fantasy world, an old timey medieval type thing, monarchies are integral to that, it's a unique part of the world and they're getting rid of it. Alot of LoK was getting rid of what made the avatar universe unique and interesting and the more I think about it in the rear view the more upset I get that they've retroactively cheapened the ATLA seires. I'm more than a little salty about the whole thing.
Idunno man.
Honestly i didn't see any actual sign that they were anything more than friends. I think people are wwwaaayyy to eager to see overtones and subtext where there is none, and i think if there is a same sex relationship on camera in mainstream media it should be as obvious as a heterosexual one.
I think people just don't know what a same sex relationship looks like in the mainstream and they assume that it's got to be vastly more subtle than a heterosexual one would be, but i see no reason why that would be the case.
Here's the thing, i know you'll probably disagree and that's fine, but imo if you come out and say something about the show/book/movie after it's over, it's cheating.
If you want something to be cannon you ought to put it in the show or at least make it obvious enough that people go "i wonder" but in this case all the fan hype came first, and then they said that, so i'll believe it when it ends up in a/the show. That article actually says they had no plans to do that from the start, and for me that was all i needed to hear.
To be clear; it's not that i don't want a same sex relationship in something mainstream, it's just that i want it to be treated like a normal one when it happens. It shouldn't be "oh joy to the world what a great step forward for the LGBT community" it should just be two girls, or two guys, in a relationship and that's that. On a side note i can't help feeling that as long as the media is so restrictive and reticent about it they're never going to get it right. Seems like same sex relationships in terms of TV are still more or less in the closet.
now usually id agree because usually it feels super ******* forced, ergo the new ghostbusters, but in LoK it was done pretty well if you ask me, subtly and slowly.
I think everyone agrees with that. I agree with it. I don't think you'll get much rage. Except from tumblr, maybe. What bothered me was that the creator said he was "happy everyone on the internet liked the ending" when he probably just clicked on the articles that came first on Google search. Of course all those people who write articles are going to agree with it! They like anything that is "progressive"
Yes because they didn't do it for funnyjunk, they did it for tumblr. the result would have been the exact same, but the fact they broke they did it to be politically correct, and NOT to be interesting and make funnyjunks dick hard is ******** .
Well I don't think it was pandering. I feel like, at the very least, it was somewhat kind of planned. If you re-watch the series' last two seasons, you can definitely see the signs. Especially throughout the fourth season.
There isn't even a relationship, unless you read a lot into it.
Sure they are friends and **** , but where are people getting from that they are more than that?
Dude. Did you not see the millions of "Korrasami" posts that flooded this website while the show was ongoing? It's time to start realizing that us and every other website is cringey.
I'm kinda happy that they ended up together. I feel like if they had more episodes to tell the story, their relationship could've been fleshed out more. Then again, if they'd had more episodes, maybe her and mako could've patched things up. Hell, she might have ended up with Bolin. After all is said and done, I'm happy with the way things went, with the time they had to convey it in.
I wanted her to end up with bolin in the first season but after she broke his heart I was glad bolin found someone of his own. I just wish opal had more of a personality.
we liked it for the porn, they like it because "it shows a breakdown of stereotypical patraicarial media focused soley upon the normative heterosexual agenda"
dude Amon was a great Villian, he and Zaheer were awesome, Tarlock was only good because it showed us Wan kicking ass and Kuvira was pretty much just the lesbian catalyst that allowed korassmi to happen
I'm not saying he wasn't a great villain, I didn't like that Korra couldn't chi/energy bend until the end of season 1 because of lazy writing. Amon's greatest strength was that he took bending away, if Korra could chi bend, then that strength wasn't as big. The series could've been better if Korra could chi bend at the beginning but it just didn't help because of how well organized Amon was. Instead they just didn't let her bend until the end for stupid reasons.
i really want to explore the early avatar world, think like a few avatar generations after avatar wan, i have this constant obsession that airbenders were originally a society of thieves and assassins
"I still want a really buggy game with a terrible leveling system, awful writing, plots that make no sense, and the same VA being repeated over and over again. Also I want to make sure it can only be saved by mods."
I ******* hate how tumblr was like "OMG SHE'S A LESBIAN GUISE OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!" It was clearly forced because of all the 'progressiveness' happening at the time, and it really should not have ******* happened.
First season was great. Second season was mostly bad, except for Avatar Wan's episodes. Third season was amazing from beginning to end. Fourth season was aiming to be amazing too, but then those final episodes with the giant mecha happened.
It was mostly good with some bad moments, but definitely not **** .
