Even though the phone smashing was a bit extreme, I still wouldn't have the guy fired. Maybe remove some money from his paycheck, but if I had somebody holding an elevator up for a phone conversation, I would be mad too, even if it was my own daughter.
User avatar #48 to #1 - nitsuan (10/13/2013) [-]
I wouldn't deduct from his check or fire him. I would expect him to pay for the phone because that is too much. I would be pissed if one of my kids were causing a disruption like that for no reason though.

**** that, any good dad would have taught his daughter not to be a bitch like that.
User avatar #86 to #1 - yuukoku (10/13/2013) [-]
If I were him, I wouldn't have acted so extremely. He was new and with this as his first impression, I would be on the fence about even letting him into the building anymore.

In most of Europe you can't even get fired for this kind of stuff because of reasons (not saying he didn't deserve it)

If i would find out that an employer of mines smashed someones phone just because someone was being rude like holding up the elevator or sth, I would fire him, because he has obvious anger issues.

#144 to #142 - abdullahmag (10/14/2013) [-]
that's why i said that's a separate issue.

for example, he could've given him a one time excuse, but he had to pay for the market value of that phone.

and if he knew his daughter was a cunt, he shouldn't let her in the building in the first place.
User avatar #145 to #144 - slugnugget (10/14/2013) [-]
doesnt matter if it was his daughter, customers or whatever. You can't go into the work place angry shout at someone and break their things.

It's immature, not a good look for the company and shows you as an employee can't control their temper for something so idiotic.

"Not let in the building" that is just stupid and you know it.

What kind of place has a significant amount of floors, but only one elevator?

I know it doesn't mention the amount he took, but it'd have to be significant to justify his bitching. The biggest building I've seen with only one elevator was three floors. Now if three floors kills you enough that you have to become violent to whoever was rude in holding the elevator damn, you need the exercise.

If there are a lot more floors I don't believe there's only one elevator for everyone.

1. Insulting
2. Unable to control temper
3. Violent and destroying other's property
That's 3 strikes against him. All of these were at his own choice to make.
He wanted to be the self-proclaimed hero of the office who stood up to what, exactly?
A stranger hogging the elevator? That's all it took to make him loose all sense of professionalism?
Maybe that woman on the phone was a client, a secretary holding the elevator for a client or a dozen other possibilities.
The most he should have done was hand in a complaint to his superior about someone misusing the elevator; but even then, his contract doesn't guarantee an elevator ride waiting for him every day he comes to work.
And there is no way he could have known that someone was holding the elevator, right until he got to his floor; which means it took him barely seconds to lose his **** for something so trivial.

You know I get thumbed up all the time, I even occasionally post decently thumbed content, I speak freely, but what I've realized about FJ is that sooner or later you will find yourself drowning in a pool of red thumbs, deserved or not. I just wanted to talk about 2nd generation rich kids and the woes of the current economic world for those of us who have to work for it, but hey, piss a few people off and it starts a domino effect ending in red.

Comment as much as I do and it's just a matter of time. It's no big deal. My level can take it. This site is just like that. One minute everybody loves you and the next they all wish you were dead.
User avatar #80 to #57 - bladebites (10/13/2013) [-]
To be honest, I can see where the red thumbs would come from, but that was overboard. You seem pretty chill.
My family is rather well-to-do, so due to the area I live in I always have to deal with these sort of spoiled brats. Not to mention the families that live around me tend to be wealthier than my own, which is apparently something they find incredibly amusing.
In short, you were a bit off topic, but definitely not wrong.
User avatar #93 to #80 - infinitereaper (10/13/2013) [-]
I get very emotional but eh... I've had plenty of bad spats on FJ, I'm trying to relax when things like this happen. I tend to be an easy target, and have a twisted personality, so it's all to be expected. I'm also extremely honest, so I don't think people get that. Everyone is hiding behind a mask, acting so high and mighty. It aggravates me, but that's just how people are sometimes.

Don't talk about yourself if you don't want people to talk about you.
"The top" requires one of two things
1) Inheritance
2) Massive dedication

You aren't saying you want "A comfortable middle class life," you are saying you want the top.
So get working. If you want to be the top in a skill, you need at least 10,000 hours invested in proper practice. If you want the top in a job, you need to live your work as your passion, investing your free time in your occupation before you even start getting paid for it and after work hours.
And even then, the top requires as much luck as skill.

Ambition without will gets you nowhere.

Greed and desire are two sides of the same coin. Just how you seem to come off about wanting more. The whole "even if it kills myself and those around me" line. Don't let yourself become the thing that cares about no one, desperately trying to get to the top, and hurting anyone to get there. It'll be lonely up there if you make it that way, and if you don't make it, it'll be lonely on the bottom too. People are unkind. Safe to even say most people. All that means is you need to find the few that are good, and stick with them. Some have more money than you, and it seems unfair. Life IS unfair, and it's never going to be fair. YOU, however, have the conscious choice to be a better person than what others are. We all play the hand we're dealt in life. I'm paralyzed from the waist down, have been all my life, poverty family, mother died of cancer in agony a year ago, best friend diagnosed with cancer a few months ago. Maybe he'll come out winning, maybe I'll mourn him sooner than I'd ever thought. Either way looks like I'm going to be there by his side anyway I can just worrying and hoping for the best until we get there. I still smile though.......I can smile, and laugh, and enjoy the smaller things, and I'll be nice to people I don't know. I'd love to have all my financial problems whisked away, anyone would. One less thing to worry about, but I know it'd be wrong to crush others to get there. At the end of every day, I can take some pride knowing that every person in my life loves me, and is involved with me because I am a good person, not because I am successful or powerful. If I never aspire to greatness I can be okay with that. All anyone needs to shoot for is doing good for themselves while having some great times with other people they go along with nicely that they've found along the way, and I think that's all you really need too. Life is a terrible thing to happen to someone, but you just gotta take it one day at a time.

Arrogant or not, petty or not, why don't you look in the mirror instead of judging me so much. We obviously don't-it's more like I don't think normally, but that's fine. It doesn't magically change the nature of those ****** opinions.

You don't use the fact that you have a high level to justify those ****** opinions, you use it to show people how futile it is to just thumb it down in petty disproval, to show people that it's more worth their while to actually explain why the opinion is ****** instead of just thumb it down and walk away as though you're going to give a damn that people thought your opinion was ****** enough to simply thumb down.
#143 to #139 - infinitereaper (10/14/2013) [-]
My point was that my opinions are generally well liked, since I post whatever I want as a usual habit. People who just attack me or accuse me of being terrible... well, when it comes right down to it, more people have been nice to me than mean.

I... think I get what you mean. Sorry. I'm just offbeat. I'm not always sure how to express myself.

I suppose I say dumb things sometimes, I'm clumsy by nature, though I know I piss people off just because they can't accept reality. A lot of people just make me sick, but whatever we're human. We aren't always going to agree. Having friends and enemies is pretty much how it works.

What bugs me the most though is the misunderstandings that keep people from getting along. Assumptions, masks, poor wording... here or there. In the end it's a terrible thing.

Tell me one field where a college degree isn't useful.

While I agree that you don't need a college degree to be succesfull, it does not mean that it's useless. Everywhere you go the first thing they'll ask you is your college degree because sadly, it's what is expected in this society of others/ You have to PROVE you are better than the others who are applying for the same job.

Of course not having a college degree doesn't mean you can't start a business, but how are you sure that starting a business is all you need to be succesfull? how are you gonna run it?. Where is your business located? do you have a place to set it in? Is it gonna be an internet business? can you mantain a website? can you keep up with the thousands of petitions for your product if it gets known? Do you know how to mail it to other countries?

Do you even know what your product will look like? If you do, how are you gonna make it unique so that people don't just go somewhere else for your product? How are you gonna market your product? How are you gonna produce it?

I have a little story. three years ago when I was 16, I made a business with my sister during school vacations to sell cookies. To keep up with the demand we had to get up at 7 am each day and go to sleep at 12 am, all day alternating our cooking duties. Wanna know how much money I made? In my country currency: 4.000.000 Guaranies, which is 3800 ish dolars. I broke my ass and flirted with old ladies to sell my product while my sister did the online marketing, AND WE BOTH COOKED FOR 12 HOURS EACH DAY. Now can you handle that? Please don't just say yes and think about what I said, because if you don't go to college your life will be like this.

Should I even mention the fallacy on commenting someone elses conversation you know nothing about?

all I'm trying to say is that you should at least have somewhat of a nice personality before trying to take on the world without brains

also, you can't just assume that you're not going to end up near a trash can on the streets just because of the fact that you want to do whatever you feel like
even I want a unique lifestyle away from the city but I'll have to take on something a little less demanding before I do it; its just the way it goes

I'm sorry. But I'm not as stupid as some people seem to think. I'm also sorry for my personality. I carry too much. My poor health and chronic pain... coupled with the wear and tear of my life just... of course I'm going to get upset. Of course I'm going to get pissed.

I'm a strange person. I piss all sorts of people off for different reasons, but I don't always mean too. Frankly, I don't think I'm even the one with the problem, not entirely at least. If people get mad at me all the time, but I don't think I'm always the one at fault.

Success by society's terms isn't equivalent to happiness. Happiness should be your primary goal.. and regardless, no. You don't need College to be what you may consider "successful".. in fact, it can do quite the opposite to you.

He still got a degree because he wanted to influence people that a college degree is important.
User avatar #100 to #99 - rhiaanor ONLINE (10/13/2013) [-]
yes, but he was successful without one. He just wanted to be a good influence, because it's simply easier to be succesful with a college degree
