See, here in Houston I don't think bikes can go between cars like that, legally at least. But they're always allowed on the High Occupancy Vehicle lanes. Makes me consider getting one, that way I don't have to worry about being hit by people changing lanes.

2005 Honda Shadow. To everyone commenting about how dangerous it is, there is always risk but as long as you know how to fall correctly, you can minimize the damage to yourself in most situations. I wiped out doing about seventy coming off of an interstate in Florida and slid for about fifty feet, but the worst damage I got was when I shredded my jacket and put a hole in my pants.

I still miss those pants...

Moral of the story? Be safe and don't ride like an asshole. And watch out for cagers.

gotta guess you drive a bike... because bikers are ******* annoying because of their lane splitting (even tho it's illegal they still do it... not like they care about other laws either tho...) when you are in the ******* traffic stopped you don't expect an idiot squeezing between two cars, because you shouldn't even expect that.

it's your own ******* fault if you lane split and there is a jerk who opens it to hurt you... it is NOT illegal to open the door, but it is illegal (maybe not in some states/countries, but in MOST it is) to lane split

i get it, you own a bike which is cheaper than lada and you gotta show everyone how fast it can go.... if you get in an accident because of splitting or because of speeding or because any of the law breaking bikers tend to do, you should just shut up and stop trying to make the other faulty. (if you survive, that is....because if not you made an innocent a murderer even if it was your own fckin fault)
#197 to #62 - klaes

(10/27/2013) [-]
If a "jerk" aka asshole filled with malicious intent opens his door on a biker to hurt them then there is no "innocent", the man or woman who did that did it should get arrested for murder or attempted murder depending on the outcome. If people are really so jealous of a bike's mobility that they'd go out of their way to hurt someone on one they should probably re-evaluate their situation and why they are being such douchebags in the first place. Is it because the biker is breaking a small traffic law, something which happens all the time even with car drivers, or is it because you're stuck watching someone else go by?

I call ********* on lane-splitting being illegal in most countries by the way. Maybe in the state you live in it is but in most of the world it's widely accepted and no one gives a **** if bikers do it. The trade-off they make is that if they fall while going fast they might get badly hurt, but they get through traffic with more ease than us car drivers do, that sounds like a fair deal.

And everything you said from "I get it" onwards reeks so damn much from jealousy that I'm scared to come close to it. Before you ask, I drive a car. I don't bike but I respect bikers, and while yes if they crash speeding it is their own fault, the same applies to cars. If we crash speeding, it is our own fault. If they crash speeding, it is their own fault. Why such butthurt from you?

Also the guy saying it's illegal and you can get your license revoked, DOES NOT KNOW what the hell he is talking about and obviously does not ride.

1. It IS legal in california
2. It's legal in most other countries
3. While it is Illegal in my state, Cops legit don't give a **** if you do it when traffic is at a stand still
4. If you do it in fully moving traffic, you'll get a ticket, not a Revoked license..

It may not be illegal, but it still pisses me the **** off. Mainly because they end up slowing down traffic for everyone else.

Also if it's illegal, then enough tickets can get your license revoked. (Not directly from it I know but still...)

Depending on the situation it's the only thing that makes sense. I only drive cars, don't have a motorcycle license. But it's actually pretty often necessary for them to pass the cars. The main reason is: cars have cooling systems (ventilators etc.) to cool the motor. Motorcycles don't, since the motor is exposed to the air directly and gets enough cooling from the draft while driving. If you stay still while the motor is running it will overheat and damage.

Most of your Air-Cooled motorcycles such as a Harley and or a KZ1000 or even my Moto-Guzzi (Though that has an Oil Cooler) CAN sit around in traffic for long periods with out even coming close to over-heating UNLESS we're talking July or August in Texas, in which case it become problematic but even my Truck which obviously has a radiator starts to over-heat on those days.
#21 to #14 - anon

(10/27/2013) [-]
Walk yourself to a motorcycle shop sir. Most modern street motorcycles are equipped with a radiator and cooling fan engineered so they CAN sit at idle, motor running, in traffic, on a hot day, without overheating. Yes, SOME older motorcycles were prone to overheating without constant airflow over the motor. *cough* Yamaha RD350 *cough* But you can make the same statement towards some older cars, that would literally overheat to a point of causing engine damage just sitting in traffic, motor running. The excuse of "my motorcycle will overheat if I don't keep moving, thus I am splitting lanes" in a region where lane-splitting is illegal will NOT please the officer...
