This is an actual strategy in some school shooting survival guides.
#37 to #29 - John Cena (04/13/2014) [-]
I agree. Try shooting someone when 20+ backpacks filled with unused books are flying at you.
User avatar #187 to #37 - metalmind (04/13/2014) [-]
Or rather the books themselves.
#34 to #29 - rimjobmcgee (04/13/2014) [-]
If students were exposed to random drills of throwing **** at the shooter immediately, then rushing and attacking, so that it would override the fear reflex, the strategy would be extremely effective. Too easy though, so let's keep using retarded rules, fear mongering, and metal detectors

Make sure its legal by law, and make sure the school allows it.

Here in CO every college must let you and that right is protected by law.

If its concealed they shouldnt know. In most states if you use an illegally carried firearm to protect yourself or others it fall under one or more necessity laws.
User avatar #78 to #75 - greyhoundfd (04/13/2014) [-]
Yeah, it's fine if it's discovered that you used it to defend yourself, no one would prosecute you for that. It's more about the case when you're not doing that, when you just have a firearm in a gun-free zone.
#84 to #78 - asasinmonkey (04/13/2014) [-]
I have to illegally carry cause of my age. I turn 21 next year so it wont be a problem any more but ive never been searched while carrying. The one cop who noticed didnt care, but i live in a bad part of Houston, Tx. so you know why...

User avatar #80 to #74 - greyhoundfd (04/13/2014) [-]
Yes, because the mass execution of an entire racial group totally compares to people carrying guns into a school against the law.
User avatar #83 to #80 - infinitereaper ONLINE (04/13/2014) [-]
It's the same as I've said, just because it's a law doesn't make it just, and just because someone is a police officer doesn't make them gods of justice. To blindly accept the way the world is, is exactly why its so ****** up, which is part of why people go on mass killings.
User avatar #86 to #83 - greyhoundfd (04/13/2014) [-]
No, it doesn't make it just, I never said that. I just said that unfortunately we live in a world where the enforcement of the law is what decides whether you go to prison, not whether or not an action was just.
User avatar #89 to #86 - infinitereaper ONLINE (04/13/2014) [-]
I feel you, but I guess I just feel it's a matter of principle, one of my favorite quotes is: "... Thats the logic of a loser! A winner must always think, not of how the world is but how it should be!" or something to that translation.

As in is, in places like America, people are imprisoned for the stupidest **** . Part of why we have so many ******* prisoners.
User avatar #91 to #89 - greyhoundfd (04/13/2014) [-]
Yeah, unfortunately though you don't fix anything by just doing something illegal and being arrested. Sometimes doing that en masse works, but it's better to try and change the policy if you disagree with it.

My city (North Vancouver BC) was at one point and it might still be- a 'nuclear weapons free zone' but it was ridiculed and I don't know the current status of it... But, just because something is proclaimed and held up to by law abiding citizens, does not mean criminals will hold it in equal value. Not sure what your context was though.

A democratically controlled state. Admittedly, I think Colorado's senate is more democratic than republican currently, but we have very republican sided laws in regards to weapons.

You have 2 choices when going after a gunmen. Attempt to disarm them, or disrupt their balance, If you dont have proper training, or are alone, or both, The second option is usually better. Most people who do this kind of thing "emphasis on most" arent very skilled shooters. If you can take their legs out or force them to fire from an uncomfortable position you drastically increase everyones chance of survival.

I strongly advise to not do what OP says, as you are giving the shooter too many kills for his killstreak, which will then result in even more deaths.

To be honest when I was in high school for my senior year, the news was filled with school shootings every week. I did plan that if some ****** came in with a gun that tit would only be wise to bum rush that ****** (Did boxing at the time so I felt that I could some serious damage with my bare hands). Yeah I knew that a lucky shot could have killed me, but I would rather die on my feet fighting, then dying on my knees. But now while in college I don't freak out about that **** anymore. But if that day dose come I'll gladly charge in the hope of saving my fellow human beings.

Just... while everyone else is hunched against the wall, to be that one guy.
The one guy who just stands up, ties his own blindfold, and sticks a cigarette in his mouth.

That **** would go viral, and I guarantee you someone would say, "Now, hold on... this kid's got a point."

User avatar #155 to #153 - roninneko (04/13/2014) [-]
Man, it's even worse here in Canada. Seriously: if you use any object - any object at all - to defend yourself, it's an automatic charge of "assault with a weapon". Threw your phone at them? Assault with a weapon.

I cannot believe how ridiculous it is here; we are so goddamn obsessed with being morally righteous that we forego all common sense and pragmatism.

I forget which character it was from Mass Effect, but they said, "Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls, and ask the ghosts if honor matters." I know it was an anti-war statement, but it makes a whole lot of sense for pro-self-defence.
User avatar #160 to #155 - vixvaporrub (04/13/2014) [-]
You're not even allowed to defend yourselves?! I mean... what? And here I thought the U.S's "Equal Force" laws were the worst thing ever.

Man, no wonder you're gonna be a cop. That's the only way you can legally protect yourself and others from the nutjobs out there!

I really like that quote. I've only heard good things about Mass Effect and now I wish I could play it.
User avatar #161 to #160 - roninneko (04/13/2014) [-]
We have "equivalent force" laws, so you might be able to squeak out a pass on it. But let's say you carry a knife for day-to-day utility purposes, as I do. If someone were to attack me with a knife, I would not legally be allowed to draw my own knife and use it in self-defense; that would mean that I was "carrying with the purpose of use as a weapon", making it an offence punishable by jail time. Hell, the same is true of a ******* pen.
User avatar #170 to #161 - vixvaporrub (04/13/2014) [-]
That has got to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. "Carrying with the purpose of use as a weapon" how the hell does that figure? Guess you'd have to be lucky enough to find a knife lying around somewhere if you want to avoid that assault charge.

You're getting punished for not letting someone harm you. That is just beyond ****** up.
User avatar #172 to #170 - roninneko (04/13/2014) [-]
