2002-2014. Cartoon network really let themself go.. I'm so sick of this being used as a picture to describe why CN used to be better. The top picture has characters from all different time periods of CN. Courage

I want to thinkk of this as a joke, but I just went on the main Nickelodeon channel. After Nick jr., its 5 episodes of Spongebob, 1 episode of TMNT(the newer CGI, not the previous adaptations) and Rabbids respectively I have to admit, I have no opinion of that , and 3 episodes of Fairly Odd Parents. The rest of the time until Nick at Night is live action garbage such as iCarly and Sam & Cat .

TL;DR this picture isn't a fair comparison.

Exactly. Plus the top one is fan made, while the other Cartoon Network actually put together. If Cartoon Network did this movie thing 10 years ago, then maybe you could make a fair comparison
User avatar #14 to #12 - TheWarmCoffee (08/21/2014) [-]
But....Cartoon Network did the top one. that's their commercial from the good days.
#42 to #12 - bluemagebrilly ONLINE (08/21/2014) [-]
Uh... That was theirs, actually. Neither are fan made; Cartoon Network, before Toonami was a thing I think, had a Friday Night Cartoon thing that had characters gathering up in a movie theater, or with characters 'hosting' a block. I recall having a recorded video of Ed, Edd, and Eddy hosting a block and arguing with the Power Puff Girls for a bit.

Hey, I recognize that gif.
It's from the music video of "I Feel Better" by Hot Chip.
It's a boy band, but the video's great because that floating head and Cancer Jesus using Hyper Beam.

I honestly feel as though it's really stupid to compare the two. CN is kinda just whipping the slate and starting over at this point and I think they're doing an amazing job of doing so. I'd say gumball is good, Adventure Time is commendable at worst and great at best, and Regular show is a decent show.
User avatar #19 to #11 - gollygreg (08/21/2014) [-]
all the new shows are kinda ****** and awkward to watch

Eh.. that's a stretch, but if you can make a solid argument I'll hear it.

Doesn't change the fact that any single show from the upper picture is straight up better than any show from the bottom one

Honestly...
I like Gumball, Adventure time, and I kind of like Regular show...not that much, but it's alright

Not if you include Boomerang, that ran the same time they aired those commercials. They used to air the Jetsons, Tom & Jerry, Flintstones, Yogi Bear, and a billion others.
User avatar #30 to #23 - zomaru (08/21/2014) [-]
Wait, did they Axe boomerang?

it has its own channel
User avatar #37 to #36 - zomaru (08/21/2014) [-]
I know that, I was just afraid for a min the axed the channel in favor of some more money making BS.

"Is it better to die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain"
-Harvey Dent

I agree that it is sad that CN does not have as much IPs as it did back then and Samurai Jack ended too suddenly. However, what would happen if those cartoons were still airing? Would it suffer the same fate as Fairlyodd Parents or Spongebob? Or would it live a great airtime saturation like South Park? We may truly never know, but it is comforting that they have some good shows like Regular Show, Adventure Time, the Toonami & AdultSwim block, and others that I haven't watched

TL;DR - It's an abstract kind of feel
User avatar #32 to #2 - wigglyjr (08/21/2014) [-]
A large time slot for old reruns would be better than nothing.
#43 to #2 - bluemagebrilly ONLINE (08/21/2014) [-]
I would honestly say that just having them connected with Boomerang would be fine, just re-running them for children and young/old adults to watch again would keep Cartoon Network working. People would give them crap, of course, for just using 'old shows', though they'd still have the new ones running, but people will give them crap about everything.

I'm an incredibly selfish person, so I'm glad Cartoon Network went to **** after I grew out of it. This way it doesn't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

I remember the times when my family was too greedy to pay for the extra channels.
Once a year, CN would be free for 30 days. We'd sit behind the TV all day enjoying the great cartoons.

Now that we finally have CN, all the good ones died off and got replaced by average ones.
So salty.

God damn, why didn't your parents/legual guardians switch from Jewcable to something else? Sorry, that sentence made me so mad because my family had Dish for a few years until we eventually noticed that it kept getting rid of channels.

If you don't like Regular show, then there's something seriously wrong here. Seriously, I can't believe how awesome it is. It has everything: Random **** , montages, one liners, and it also gets away with lines like "This party needs guests, with breasts. And mine don't count!"

The few episodes I saw had rather cheesy comedy and a few of the romance things had me cringing slightly, if only because of the awkwardness between two birds trying to talk to each other. They could have just been bad episodes, but none of the four or five I saw had me remotely interested in what was going on.

Yeah, for some reason they couldn't keep a cartoon going for more that a year or two for a while All those live-action shows, Flapjack, and Chowder always seem to come to mind. . I think right now they're coming out of a transition period or something; everything seems less recycled, but seems to be getting back to better quality now.
User avatar #55 - fac (08/21/2014) [-]
well hey, they shot out awesome content for years, and years

they're just going through a crap time

i'm sure they're gonna come up with some cool stuff in the upcoming years

(adventure time, regular show, and gumball is a good start)

Let that theater fill up, man. That theater's different, but it's still ours, and whoever inherits it better get some characters in there that have earned their damn places, like everyone in that top pic. I wonder if there are any cartoons or other things that previous generations feel this way about; things we'll just never actually get to experience. It's always the little **** .
